Old Spitalfields Market Questions & Answers

SouthernUS

Is there one day that is better for vintage doodads? (lace, postcards, buttons, just "old" things that are neat) We will be in London on a Thursday, Fri, and Saturday at the end of May.

Tony/Amir - this is the definitive answer (albeit a bit late, sorry only just happened across this) as I have had a stall in the market for 17 years and currently attend both Thursdays and Sundays. Thursday is the antiques market day, run by an outside operator who also run the antique markets at Bermondsey (Fridays) and Covent Garden (Mondays). It is a great market and perfect for anyone looking for antiques/collectibles/vintage as this is all there is on Thursdays at Old Spitalfields Market. The rest of the week is mixed, different every day, but the biggest day (ie most number of stallholders) is Sunday. This is a great day to visit as you can also visit Petticoat Lane market (2 mins away), Upmarket (2 mins) Back Yard Market (5 mins) Brick Lane Market (5 mins) and Columbia Road Market (15 mins). There are a variety of stalls on Sunday, eg clothing (designed by stallholders and some vintage), homewares, crafts, jewellery, books, 2nd-hand, cards, t-shirts, etc. Please visit!

Amir is wrong. Thursday is the best day for vintage, antiques and collectables. Believe me. Greenwich Market is also open on Thursdays and some people go to both of them.

Sunday is the best day with the Brick Lane Market. Other days are all much of a muchness, though there is likely to be a bit more happening on Saturday.

Hi Tony,

How exactly am I wrong? Did I have some ulterior motive, I was not aware of, to go on Sunday or did I go on Monday and was confused?
