Going to St.Thomas and St. John for a week am a little nervous about driving on left hand side of rode as well as other drivers going really fast . Should we just cab it?
I can really only comment on St. John, but we rented a Jeep and did not have any issues driving on the other side of the road. The roads are narrow and hilly so most people don't go too fast. Honestly, if your visit is short and you are staying in town and only going to the most popular beaches, you will be fine cabbing it, but I am very glad we had a rental Jeep. That way we could explore and not lose time to waiting on cabs.
Taxis are always available at a stand in the center of town. A taxi is a pickup truck with seats built on the bed, usually 9-12 seats. They are fun, and lots easier than driving. The cost is $5-9 to go to various beaches. Renting a jeep runs about $75 a day, so taxis are definitely cheaper. This is feasible if you are staying in town.
