Are any beaches walkable from the cruise ship docks? If not, how much is a local taxi to the beach area?
If you have the time head for the South Beachs from the Dockyard the Nr. 7 Bus, heads to Horseshoe and Elbow Beach every 30 minutes - the ride is about 40-50 minutes but worth it to see the PINK beaches of Bermuda. You can get bus tickets at the post office at the Dockyard (remember to buy a return ticket) - 3 Zone is $ 3.50 /14 Zone is $5.00.
Otherwise there is Snorkle Park Beach at the Dockyards...and on the West Side Somerset - West Whale Bay Beach - same bus shorter ride.
Hope this helps... (google map!)
There is a bike and scooter rental in the dockyard. We took the bus to the south beaches. There is a fee to enter the beach that is within walking distance of the port and it is a very small beach and not anything like horseshoe and elbow beach. When we were at horseshoe beach the taxis were offering rides back to the dockyard for $7/person. You can take bus 7 or bus 7 or 2 into Hamilton and ferry back. We had a two day bus pass which was $31.50/person. Unlimited bus and ferry rides with it.
My husband seems to remember a beach you can get to through the garrison buildings. The cruise boat port is the ugliest place on such a pretty island! You can catch a bus that will take you to horse shoe beach, a really unusual and pretty place. Just ask for help. The bus drivers are wonderful at tourist information. Taxis are very expensive and we had one take us on some little detours and the trip cost $10 more than it should have!
There are two beaches near Fort St. Catherine (one on either side) which is about a mile from the cruise ship terminal in St. George. It's a bit of a walk, but there's a shuttle which runs from Ordinance Island (which is where cruise ships dock) to Fort St. Catherine on a regular basis. Not sure of the schedule but I think it's hourly. You can simple wait on the designated bench on Ordinance Island or buy a ticket from the Visitor's Centre at King's Square across the bridge.
Only the snorkle park beach. Not the greatest when we were there. Purchase a bus and ferry pass at the Dockyards. South beach and horseshoe beach are great.
