Hello, We will be visiting GTNP in August and will be staying at the Jackson Lake Lodge. We are thinking about seeing the Rodeo in Jackson. Is it safe to drive back to the lodge after the rodeo ends? I read in other posts the warnings about driving in the dark and want to get some opinions on whether this is a good idea. Thank you!
Hello New Jersey! Traveling at dust or at night can be dangerous. It’s hard to imagine missing a black bull in the middle of the road but that almost happened to me! After that I was being so careful. We saw a small group of deer on the side of the road and decided to stop. The deer decided it was time to travel on and a small deer actually rammed into the side of the car. I’m really cautious now and plan our trips so we don’t travel at or after dusk. Enjoy the rodeo. It was great.
I mean, you certainly can. Just be very, VERY careful. Use your high beams and drive slower than the speed limit. I was alone when I went, so I just made the decision to get back to where I was staying before it got completely dark out. Around dusk each night, I saw several elk crossing the road or near the side of the road. I drove to Yellowstone Lake before sunrise one morning, and was fine. Just be cautious and you'll be fine! :)
