Planning to go camping in Fall. Do you think first week in November or first week in October is better for fall colors relatively speaking. Ideally it would be good to go middle to late October, but unfortunately, the other weekends in October are booked.
Any help is appreciated.
We are planning an April trip to Fort Mountain State Park and are wondering about the Hwy 52 drive between Chatsworth and the park. We drive a 2009 F150 (4.6L) and pull a 2010 trailer, between 4,500-5000 lbs loaded. Just a little nervous about the elevation. This will be our first “mountain” camping trip.
Can you tell me how far it is from the parking area to the Pioneer campsites? Also, are there some that are closer than others?
On a scale from 1-10, how scary is the ride up the mountain to Fort Mountain State Park? We have lived in the flatland of Florida for 30 years and I have a fear heights but have always fought against it. I am better with guard rails, and my husband driving slow, but I am leery of huge drop offs with no guard rails and very steep grades. We drove to Blowing Rock, NC, about ten years ago and that has an elevation of 3566, and I was very uncomfortable for me. If we go to GA, we plan to arrive in the daylight hours. Thank you in advance!!
