First visit to the Big Island is coming up in a few days. Very interested to see the volcanoes. Can I see it on our own or do we have to book a tour?
Hi MurfeeW, so you could still sail in a boat out to the sea to see the lava entering the sea ? How close could you get?
Unfortunately I booked our tickets for a Tuesday before all the eruptions, and now the only portion of the park that's open isn't open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Is the drive down Hwy 11 still passable? We wanted to see the black sand beach as well and hoping there are other things we can do in the area and still have that "volcano seeing" experience.
how long does it take to walk from where one parks a car to be able to see lava flowing into the sea?
Are there a lot of mosquitos? How difficult are the hikes. I am in my 7th month of pregnancy and am still very active walking 3 miles or more a day.
It is supposed to rain on the Hilo side for most of our trip. Is it worthwhile to make the trip to the volcano in the rain?
