The best island trip! Take the public ferry from Olhao to Culatra village then walk through the village onto the boardwalk to the sea. Then head towards the lighthouse along the stunningly beautiful beach for an hour then chill out at the very cool Maramais beach bar before walking down to the ferry to return to Olhao. Suggest the 11am out and 4pm back.

Fabulous beach under the lighthouse. Really beautiful beach and water for all the family. Relaxing ferry trip from Olhao - a bit quieter than Culatra - worth seeing fish around shipwreck

I have the pleasure of visiting Armona Island in the Algarve region of Portugal frequently, and the experience always leaves me enchanted. This hidden gem, situated to the south of mainland Portugal, offers a unique and tranquil escape that captivates the heart.

Armona Island is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, and its pristine beaches and untouched landscapes are a testament to the area's natural beauty. The island is a serene stretch of golden sand, complemented by the crystal-clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The gentle lull of the waves and the absence of noisy crowds (except for July and August) create an idyllic setting for relaxation and contemplation.

One of the island's distinctive features is its accessibility. Accessible only by boat, Armona Island remains free from the hustle and bustle of mainland life. The absence of cars and the slow pace of life on the island contribute to a sense of tranquility that is hard to find elsewhere.

As you explore the island, you'll discover charming sceneries, where the boats bob gently in the water. The local restaurants offer fresh catches that tantalize the taste buds. I highly recommend trying the local specialities for an authentic taste of the Algarve.

For nature enthusiasts, Armona Island is a paradise. The Ria Formosa lagoon surrounding the island is home to diverse bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers. Walking trails meander through the dunes and along the coastline, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Accommodation options on Armona Island are very limited, you can either rent a cottage, or a bungalow at the Orbitur campsite, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the island's unique atmosphere. The hospitality of the locals enhances the overall experience, making you feel like a welcomed guest in this close-knit community.

In conclusion, Armona Island is a haven for those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst nature's beauty. Whether you're a sun-seeker, nature enthusiast, or simply looking to escape the hustle of everyday life, Armona Island offers a serene and authentic Algarve experience.

The island always leaves me a sense of rejuvenation and a promise to return to this enchanting paradise...

Two markets, one all things fish and the other all thing fruit/veg/cheese. There is also a Saturday market held outside which is well worth a walk around.

Beautiful natural area off eastern Algarve. Various wildlife seen during trips. Worth viewing at different states of the tide and areas are exposed at lower tides.

Absolutely stunning beach, with crystal blue waters, even in February. The water wasn’t too cold either. Good spot for water sports too.

With a splash of colour this little studio catches the eye as soon as you walk in and just reminds you of what a fabulous place Portugal is.

Went there for a private party/ jam session. Really enjoyable. The original photos are totally out of date. Fish and chips are not served there. The couple that run the bar and did some cooking left about 4 years ago. There are rooms to book and activities to join if you want to.

I took a walk to the Cerro de Sao Miguel a couple of weeks ago. The path itself is easy to walk on and the way farily short (from the carpark next to the bike trail). The view from the hill is stunning and it is worth the walk: there is also the possibility to climb on a little tower in order to have a look at the panorama. From there, you can even see the Algarve and the Spanish borders (if it's not cloudy!). The perfect way to unplug and enjoy a little bit of nature!

Plenty of activities taking place in the centre, I think you just have to time it right, I visited when there was a small display of Art by local artists.
