What travellers are saying
- John S5 contributionsThis family run business gave us a great tour of the lagoon. We had multiple stops for snorkeling to see coral, tropical fish, sting rays and sharks. Throughout the tour we had live music and singing from the captain, grandpa and Max. A filling lunch on a motu was followed by swimming in the lagoonarium with lemon sharks. The tour circles the island with your guide pointing out various points of interest. This tour was one of the highlights of our trip in the South Pacific.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - snpkelleyUniontown, OH490 contributionsWe stayed right on the beach and it is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been! We snorkeled right off the beach and it was like an aquarium. We were on the south end is it. Absolutely stunningWritten 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - turbo830San Francisco, CA12 contributionsA boat ride out to a shallow that is teaming with sharks and rays. The guide will feed them and they are so friendly (rays) and will let you touch their back. Because of the shallow water it is also excellent foe snorkeling where you can see the rays and sharks clearly underwater.Written 9 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - viat0r1966Lake Forest, CA79 contributionsJune 2021: Currently closed. Mainly due to Covid - lack of tourist money funding it. The whole of French Polynesia just opened May 1st - they really need us tourists. Please go! Such lovely people and wonderful natural beauty. If you like the color blue, you will love this island.Written 4 June 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mehtap S12 contributionsWhoever we told that we want to hike up this mountain, literally said „dont do it without a hike“.
We were fortunate enough that our captain from our cruise gave us exact details about where the hiking starts. So that helped a lot. And we did it without a guide. We wore spikes because after a rainy night, the trail was muddy and I confidently say these were lifesavers. The first 1,5 hours are actually okay. And you can see where the „path“ is. We also used alltrails app, whenever we were unsure about which way to go.
Yes its humid af and yes you will have mud all over you and yes you will be drenched in sweat.
At one point below the summit, we saw a steep way up with ropes and thought this might be a short cut. It turned out to be the craziest, sketchiest vertical rope climbing experience. At one point there was a fallen tree over a cliff with a horizontal rope leading you over this. Turned out this was a dead end. So we turned around right below the summit. As we were already 2,5 hours climbing, we turned around. We had amazing views but we were also very much tired. After these rope climbing craziness, we said its not worth the risk to use our remaining energy to go all the way around the summit to push the last meters. Because you definetly need energy for the way down.
If you go all the way up, the way down is even scarier. There was a vertical rope hanging down and I couldnt figure out how I can climb down. So the only possible way down was to hang on the rope and slide down.
If you ask my partner, he will say dont do it again. If you ask me, this is actually a very nice and thrilling hike which will give you the most incredible muscle aches for days.
If in doubt, do it! You can always turn around, if you dont feel safe.Written 18 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very picturesque with the mountain in the background. Too late for mass but did get to walk inside and see the alter and Eucharist carved from a large tree trunk. Well worth the look inside.Written 6 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- mccsan francisco40 contributionsTo see Alain’s work either you have to stay at one of the resorts which exhibit his paintings or you visit his home studio in Vaitape. We were lucky enough to meet him and his partner Karen with an easily arranged appointment (via email). His work is splendid, the photos on the internet do NOT do it justice. When you see a Despert in person, you will fall in love with the work. His techniques for adding texture are the real show-stealers. He mixes enamels and acrylics, and divides canvases in unique ways. He captured my eye and stole my heart. And his backstory! Painting is a second career, he went from zero painting to renowned artist in quite a short time. His work is in collections of the rich and famous and museums. You will want to own a Despert. The visit to the house was a great juxtaposition to the the rest of Bora Bora.Written 17 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Nick M2 contributionsWe met John on out honeymoon at the St Regis and after viewing his artwork we knew we needed something to commemorate such an unbelievable experience. We attended his viewing and the hardest part about working with him was choosing which piece(s) we wanted. Not only were his pricing more than fair but his service far exceeded our expectations. I could write a novel on all the reasons you should work with John and get some of his art in your own home but ill leave you with just do it because you will be more than pleased that you did.
