This wall is probably the only attraction and reason to visit Ávila.

The views from the walls are amazing but unfortunately, we had joined a day tour and the guide rushed us through. We only walked a very small section of the wall but we still managed to take some very cool photos.

Not really worth a full day trip to Avila unless you do it together with Segovia.

The Catedral de Avila is an impressive Gothic and Romanesque structure in medieval Avila. My wife and I went to Avila on a day trip from Madrid. The entry fee was a little steep and we had limited time, so we didn’t go inside.

From its location, one is afforded a great view of the city walls. I only returned this time to get a photo of the Ávila letters sign.

My wife and I visited Avila on a day trip from Madrid during a visit this past spring. Our guide took us to the Basilica de San Vincente at the end of our tour of Avila. It is very impressive on the interior of the basilica. The gold plated altar is beautiful and the carvings on the martyrs’s tomb is very colorful. The Basilica is not to be missed when visiting Avila.

I arrived at 11:30 and throughout my one hour visit I was the only one there. The entry cost of €4 is good value for the solitude.

I loved walking around the three cloisters

A must for Catholics or anyone interested in the life of Saint Teresa of Avila. Beautiful view of the city walls from outside. Bring euros for the €2 fee or gift shop because they don’t accept credit cards.

Avila is a wonderfully preserved medieval city. It is very clean without any graffiti. The walls surrounding the old town are in good condition. The Catedral de Avila, the Basilica de San Vincente and the Convento de Santa Teresa are three of the impressive buildings in Avila. Is easy to walk through the medieval part of town in an afternoon. My wife and I enjoyed our visit to Avila.

We were here in the days leading up to the feast day, so we felt we should see this. It was a nice church but not terribly notable in our opinion, and we didn’t stay long (partly because Mass was about to begin). But if in Avila, you should go. It’s free

My wife and I went to Avila on a day trip from Madrid this past spring. Our tour group walked by the Palacio Caprotti but did not have time to go inside to see the museum. We just took the opportunity to take a photograph of the outside of the building.

Plaza Mayor is a nice city square in medieval Avila. It is not as touristy as Madrid’s Plaza Mayor. There are not many shops or cafes in the plaza. Only worth a quick stop while in Avila.

This is a small but beautiful church on Plaz de Santa Teresa opposite the city gate and walls of Avila.

You only need a few minutes to visit here.

This was the first of St Teresa’s reformed carmelite converts, simple to the point of austerity. There is a small but informative museum attached.
