What travellers are saying
- Guillaume AShizuoka, Japan547 contributionsGreat park for families with young kids, combining many different things to see/do/enjoy and also learn.
Gardens, greenhouse, zoo, natural history museum, dinosaur park, amusement park With many very affordable rides with surprisingly z nice go cart circuit. There's a lot to at least please all members of the family.
FYI, many food vendors available inside the parkWritten 20 March 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Additionally the castle admission is free. I highly recommend visitors who are interested in history as there are quite some historical descriptive displays within the castle arranged in a very orderly manner as you wind up the castle floors.Written 13 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
During the Warring States Period, Yoshida Castle was built as an important base for the control of Mikawa Province. During the Edo period (1603-1867), it was the seat of the Mikawa-Yoshida clan, and came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of War during the Meiji period. After the Pacific War, the area was developed into Toyohashi Park, where it stands today.
Although there are several cultural facilities such as the Toyohashi Museum of Art, more than half of the park has been developed as sports facilities, with tennis courts, a track and field stadium, and a baseball field, and sporting events are held throughout the year. Only a few stonewalls, earthworks, and moats remain of Yoshida Castle, and the iron tower in the northwest part of the park was rebuilt after the war.
The western part of the park, where the remains of Yoshida Castle are scattered, is not suitable for playing ball etc. because of the intricate sidewalks and many trees. There is an area with playground equipment for toddlers, but it does not seem to be large enough. The park is more for sports, jogging, and strolling.Written 27 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Also exhibitions about the Tokaido road and travelling in the period. There is also big old japanese style building that can be explored. There are english translations on many exhibitions. Nice stop on rainy day. Entrance fee was for student 400yen so very affordable. It is good to go at least one hour before closing to have ime to explore both parts of the museum.Written 21 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jamtrousers38 contributionsKalmia is a bit department store in Toyohashi main station. Downstairs there is a food court, and on the way up there are lots of restaurants and cafes. The top floor has a big Muji, and there are lots of clothes, shoes and accessories shops too. There's also a phone shop (Softbank I think), and cute boutiques. There's a Claire's Accessories, and a big book/comic store. Basically if you need food, drink, gifts or clothes you're in the right place! I like it because it's convenient and reasonably priced.Written 21 July 2014This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Well worth a visit with your kids.Written 25 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Janina3 contributionsReally nice museum with lots of different things to do. There were several different types of experiments that visitors can do related to mining, minerals and physics. There were also several different exhibits of mining, rocks and minerals with information. The entrance was a bit difficult to find and most of the information is in japanese but all in all very nice museum. Also great place to visit with children.Written 21 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- hfot2 🌸🍁🌸Vermont7,449 contributionsWe took the tram to see Yoshida Castle but the stop for it was at Shiyakusho-mae. Taking advantage of the opportunity, we walked around City Public Hall to look at this National Important Cultural Property. It’s a curiously powerful building, described as Neo-Romanesque but with lashings of 1930’s architecture.
An overpass on the street corner affords closer views of and better angles on the statues on the building and since the mid-afternoon sun was particularly good, we stopped here to take photos before heading to the Castle. We took more photos of City Hall after visiting the castle before getting back on the tram.
Fine eagle statues on the ground to the right of the building, but the light on them was never good when we were there. We took what photos we could.
The building itself was busy with traffic as many elder citizens were struggling up and down the steep stairs to conduct whatever business they had with the city.Written 27 May 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Unfortunately this church eas closed when we were there. We missed the opportunity to visit the inside. Probably I would have goven it a higher rating then for an Orthodox church in Japan.Written 13 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
