Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Los Caracoles is an adventure though a problematic one. Breathtaking views and hairpin turns. But the road is wide enough for trucks riding to/from Argentina. And those trucks are the problem. Not only they crawl which is logistically understandable, they create enormous traffic. Some parts of the road were closed for repairs and that was just too much for me to handle. I advanced to Turn 20, got stuck for the passage of the ongoing traffic, and turned back as I only planned to drive to Portillo. Yet it was worth it. Gorgeous views and guanaco at the roadside. The toll is hefty at 5,500 CLP.

It is a small museum with a 30-40 min visit. There is not much on display, mostly the building, gardens and some rooms with recreated basic interiors where Santa Teresa de Los Andes used to live. On the first floor most of the room are visible. However on the ground floor they are all closed and only one picture is available on the outside to explain what the room was. Entrance fee 1.000CLP

Learned about the site while at the San Esteban vineyard. You get the tickets there and it is on the Property of the vineyard. Just a short drive from the vineyard is the parking spot and you climb the hill. The trail leads around to various sites of pre Inca and Inca period Petroglyphs. You need to take water with you. The petroglyphs can be viewed along the pathway and you have a great view of the Town of San Esteban and the Aconcagua River. There was not a lot of people on the trail, in an hour and a half we only seen one other family. Very interesting and enjoyable.

Don’t be discouraged by the outside. It is a house and looks a bit run down. Interiors are worth a 30 min visit to see a very small but well kept museum that shows many archeological things of Los Andes but also of other parts of Chile. Entrance fee 1.000CLP. It is right in front of the Santa Teresa de Los Andes museum.

It is a small quite and relaxing place. There is a Plaza de Armas in the center of the town that allows for a relaxing walk or pause. In the streets around the plaza there are some bars and restaurants that are modest but serves good food at modest prices. There is not much to see, two small museums and few buildings. It is 1 hour drive from Santiago on the road to Mendoza.
