What travellers are saying
- JernejaSlovenia191 contributionsLove love loooove this walk. It’s a definite must do while in Sydney. It took me around 3h because I stopped every few meters to admire the views. I wish I could have spent longer here. I could not recommend this walk enough.Written 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mukesh GMississauga, Canada262 contributionsSmaller and cozy, close to the best beach in Australia. This beach is also fairly busy in the weekends and much easier to reach by Uber and mostly flat walk from the drop off point. The currents are also not as strong as Bondi beach.Written 4 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CasandraTPSydney, Australia4,294 contributionsThis is more than just a swimming club, it also has a bar and a bistro area to eat. We popped in on a weekday for a catch up and a drink and it was just perfect for it. We managed to get a spot out on the balcony so we could people watch those swimming in the pools and the neighbouring area of Bondi itself. The prices aren’t expensive considering where it is, and the staff are really friendly. Note you have to go to the bistro to order food and not at the bar itself. On entry you have to have your drivers license or passport to get in, similar to going to a RSL club. On the weekends it does get ridiculously busy, so if possible try and go during the week. on the floor above is the more expensive Icebergs Dining Room and bar but I prefer coming here as the views are the same.Written 24 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mairwen1United Kingdom11,974 contributionsDespite the number of tourists who flock to Bondi Beach, few make it down to this northern end of the beach and even fewer will stumble across the lookout point on the Ben Buckler headland. The views from here are unbeatable but you probably need some local knowledge to find it.
There are actually three interconnected lookout points over 3 levels here.
Starting from lowest to highest, they are:
1. Ray O’Keefe Reserve
2. Sam Fiszman Park and finally,
3. Ben Buckler Point
You can drive up to Ben Buckler Point and walk back down the hill to see all three but it is very difficult to get street parking and the one tiny carpark at Ray O’Keefe Reserve is almost always full.
The best way to access the lookouts is to walk. You can easily walk between all three.
If you are walking from Bondi Beach, there are two routes.
We took the easier way, which was to walk from the North Bondi RSL Club, right to the end of Ramsgate Avenue (the other option is to follow the trail that runs past the tidal pool and scramble along the rocks until you reach a set of white wooden stairs). Both routes take you to the first lookout. This is a lovely vantage point, looking straight across to Bondi Beach and is especially beautiful at sunset.
The second, mid-level lookout, Sam Fiszman Park, sits immediately above Ray O’Keefe Reserve. It’s worth noting that despite the name, this is not really a park. It’s only a small area which consists of concrete stairs, a tiny circular patch of grass and the lookout point. There are no park-like facilities at all.
From here, we walked 100 metres up the road to the last and highest lookout, Ben Buckler Point. This has the most panoramic views and because of its height, we could see right down the south coast to the Clovelly and Maroubra headlands. When we turned in the other direction, we looked out across the vast ocean in a view that extended to the horizon. It was stunning and we lingered here for some time, just taking it all in.Written 30 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It’s a colourful, interesting place to stroll through, with a good range of stalls, including local designers, original hand-crafted goods and very little tat. I didn’t see any of the cheap, plasticky rubbish that you often see at other markets.
It’s held every Saturday and Sunday in the Bondi Beach Primary School grounds, which is directly opposite the beach.
It’s worth noting that the two days are very different.
Saturday is the Farmer’s Market, with fresh food and produce. I went on a Sunday, when it’s a general market with mainly clothing, jewellery, and homeware stalls.
It’s not a huge market. I think it was probably somewhere around 50 stalls + food stalls, although it was raining when I was there so on a nicer day, there may be a lot more. Even at a leisurely pace with a lot of lingering and browsing, I easily covered it in well under an hour.
There were a couple of great swimwear stalls. I browsed at the hat stall, and the fresh flowers.
I was very tempted by the lovely soy candles at ‘Making Scents’. The white tea & ginger was particularly nice.
The art stall also caught my eye. They had beautiful framed and unframed aerial photographs of Bondi Beach. I liked the non-beach prints as well. It was a popular stall and was doing a good business. Although I didn’t buy a print on the day, I’m thinking that I might go back.
Food stalls are clustered together in a central, grassy area. We saw most of the usual range that we might have expected at a market - crepes, coffee, paella, falafels, and, my favourite, a gozleme stall. A gluten-free donut stand was popular. There’s some shade cloth overhead and people sat out in the middle with their food, listening to the live music. On a sunnier day, this would have been lovely.
Disappointingly, there were no vintage or second-hand stalls and no book stall which left a bit of a gap in the market. For tourists, there were no souvenirs (apart from the art stall and maybe a beach bag).
NOTES:
The Sunday market is open every week from 10am – 4pm. Car parking is available at the beachfront but on weekends, it is usually hard to find a spot, it’s metred and is time limited.Written 7 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's a 2km walk from Bondi to Tamarama Beaches with I would say about 50 sculptures from all around the world featured along the coastal path from late October to early November. Entirely worth going to. Sunscreen is provided. There is a food and beverage station along the way. I won't lie: some years are much better than others, but it's definitely something you don't want to miss.Written 8 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Dimitris LSydney, Australia52,785 contributionsThis moving monument is a small but significant reminder of the brutal force of Nature. It commemorates the day on 6 February, 1938 when three huge waves suddenly rose without warning and swept into the sea several hundred swimmers. The lifesavers on duty quickly went into action and managed to save at least a hundred who were fighting for survival. Amazingly only five people lost their lives. The day came to be known as Black Sunday. The monument is only tiny and is easily missed by most walkers, unless you pay closer attention while going by. Worth looking for it if you are in the area, walking along this beautiful walkway.Written 11 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rae104 contributionsWow. Very very cool Hard to find but once we did it was worth it. Great view of the ocean. It felt like we could see forever. Cool old rock carvings. Well protected so they do not get trampled. A nice slice of history. Watch out for flying objects. - mrdom8,514 contributionsConnecting the Bondi Rd hill to the coastal walk, Hunter Park is a pleasant place to sit and enjoy the views and breeze but calling it a sculpture park is a bit rash. I saw a couple of old metal things that were probably sculptures, a round stone thing, and a couple of toppled benches that might have art or might have fallen over in the recent storms - or since the rest of the park was fine, they might have been like that for a long time.Written 15 February 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - bamitchBendigo, Australia361 contributionsWhat a great little find. Situated on the hill overlooking Bondi beach with coastal cliff face for great photos. The clubhouse itself is in need of a little TLC but the pro shop has everything you need, 7 used golf balls $10, club hire which were fine which you really only need a pitching wedge for all the par 3’s. No need to book just rock up.
We went after 3pm for $15 pp unlimited golf with the kids that loved it. Greens and tee boxes are in good shape and keep well, in between is very dry. Great time filler with the kidsWritten 7 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
