- Kelly VCedar Rapids, IA69 contributionsThis was an unexpected treat for us. We book this ahead of time thinking it was just going to be a normal, run of the mill hike. It was MUCH more than that. We went up Mount Ulía and headed to San Pedro via the Camino de Santiago which is an old religious pilgrimage. I'll let you look it up instead of me telling you about it and butchering it but there are bits of this trail in Spain, Portugal, France and Italy. If you go to the visitors Center you can get a passport and have it stamped as you hike these trails. It was a really fun and interesting experience that our guide (I feel terrible that I can't remember her name! Alua or Arua maybe? But we LOVED her!) told us all about during our 6 mile hike. The hike isn't difficult although there are some parts that are a bit more challenging than others. But I would still rate it as any age can make it. And at the end we went to a bar in San Pedro for some Pintxos and cider! I would absolutely do this hike again. Mekal met us at our rental apartment, in Gros, and we set out on an epic hike up and over the mountain - breathtaking inclines, breathtaking views! That might have been our favorite part of the tour, not discounting the water taxi ride, stroll around Pasajes San Juan and drive through the rolling hills - but then we got to Hondarribia and visited a gastronomic society. Such a unique experience and amazing food, wine and cider. The whole day was unforgettable and possibly our favorite of our week in the Basque region.
