What travellers are saying
- Agnieszka E20 contributionsDefinitely must visit beach in Albania. Beautiful sunsets:) You can even stay over night in your tent. This was fantastic experience!Written 3 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Ekaterina MFrance48 contributionsA bit dirty surroundings but the castle itself is rather interesting: well preserved, information cards and some pictures on the walls, and great view.Written 14 September 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. So when you enter Himara area drive slowly and you will find it.
Parking is free, but the price is 3 EUR per person.
Wear comfortable shoes, it is very slippery and in ruins.Written 2 July 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The sun beds are around 600-700 lek/day. There are a lot of garbage on the beach. At the day time may be overcrowded.Written 18 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Mariliza_KLAthens, Greece46 contributionsIt is worth to make a small detour and visit this small well preserved castle - fortress on the peninnsula. The view from the top floor is breathtaking! Olive trees, agave and the blue sea complete a scenery of exceptional beauty! Built by the orders of Ali Pasha of Tepelene, for himself and his garrison it is shaped in the form of a huge fidget spinner!! It consists, of a ground floor, a top floor and a small basement which was used as prison.Written 21 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Belinda M13 contributionsThis spot is very tranquil with an amazing view of Himara. The walk is a bit tricky - the way is hard to find and we got really lost. Luckily, a friendly shepard found us and escorted us to the monastery.
The scenery and walk are both fantastic-you hike through ancient olive groves and past massive oak trees. Friendly goats will escort you much of the way. It should take about 2 hours from the centre of town.
The monastery itself is lovely, but is still recovering from communist destruction.
I highly recommend making the trip. It feels like a really special spot. It is really peaceful, and still off the beaten path. But take lots of water and get a local to show the way. Don't follow Google maps- the road leads nowhere.
I can send photos of the way if it helps.Written 30 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. This beach is isolated but it does not mean it is empty, on the contrary, on a Thursday it had many guests. What I particularly do not like is that they have a station for water sports there so the different jet skis and stuff block your view. We did not pay for a sunbed and just put our towels near the water.Written 6 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - El_MaranzaMilan, Italy10 contributionsFirst things first: although there is a walking path to it, DON’T GO BY FOOT, ONLY BY BOAT/KAYAK! Seriously, you have to partially climb to get there, and the path and rocks there are not stable at all. A friend of mine literally almost fell down the cliff as a rock he was holding on crumbled down. Don’t try it, it’s genuinely DANGEROUS. That being said, the beach is wonderful, nice little pebbles on the shore, beautiful rocky cliffs. The sea is also good for snorkeling. Watch out as there is not much shadow, except for a little cave on the right side.Written 4 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Terry MHamilton, Canada3,975 contributionsI am not so much of a sun and surf guy to suggest beach 'x' in Himare is better than beach 'y'. I do know this was a nice stretch of beach: in a cove, white sand and shades of blue water. I don't need anything more than that to have enjoyed the place. The whole area is not nearly so busy as Saranda down the coast, another big plus.Written 28 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - B1714DBelgrade, Serbia14,267 contributionsOne of our best stops on the all day Vlore-Saranda drive was on Porto Palermo beach. It is secluded in the bay of the small peninsula where's the Ali Pasha castle, which you should definitely visit (see that review).
The Palermo beach is very small, but not crowded. It's just by the main road and there's a parking lot (unpaved).
The sea was fantastic, crystal clear and calm like oil. Really great two hours spent there.Written 22 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CulinarySlutToronto, Canada783 contributionsWe spent three weeks in Himare and spent time here every day. It’s a laid back, family friendly beach with great water for swimming. Never once during our time there did we feel crowded, nor did we feel any sense of insecurity of any kind.
There are two super friendly guys there who rent kayaks (one- and two-person), pedal boats, paddle boards and beach umbrellas. Prices for the rentals are very fair (600L for one hour on a two-person kayak; 1,000L for one hour with a pedal boat).
The restaurant/bar strip is immediately behind the beach, so you have great access to restaurants, coffee shops, bars, markets and clothes/beach kit shops.
We left at the end of June and it was just starting to get busier, but there’s plenty od room and had we stayed longer we would still have been there every day.Written 27 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Thanks a lot for letting us borrow your GoPro, Foti 🤩 the 3 hour tour wasn’t enough, I could have stayed on your boat for 3 days!Written 19 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
