Fantastic experience as it was super well organised and organised in allowing bis tours entry and access without feeling like it was overwhelmed with tourists. They have managed the tours to one hour per group and this makes the whole experience far more enjoyable.

If you have more time, this is another site which optional to visit, take about an hour or less to explore and hike along the rich country side - passing lots of paddy field, children playing football, climbing the tamarind tree... if you lucky may stumble some water buffalo too. Recommend for those who seek and wants to know the life hood of local village and highest point is restore old temple. The view overlooking the rolling hills and terrace of rice field is very captivating.

I joined the Sunrise trip few years back before the pandemic, and it was awesome. We had the chance to climb up to the temple and watch the sun rise from the temple complex. However, during the pandemic and renovation on its way, the reception informed us that we can only watch the sun rise from the hill across the temple. A bit disappointed, but when we got there, it came to our surprise that it offers a whole new experience. Seeing the sun rise with the silhouette of the temple from a far is quite magical. After enjoying the view, breakfast was served picnic style with a guide telling the story of Borobudur. Very educative, relaxing and enjoyable.

During covid time, the group is limited to a very small size, please call and book ahead.
Worth waking up at 3am and the 1 hour drive to the temple from city.

Owned by a local artist who was born close by Borobudur temple, Mr. Suitbertus Sarwoko painted the color of Borobudur using his point of view. Banyu Bening art gallery is the garage for his detailed surrealism paintings. His painting already collected by several collectors around the world. His painting are mostly inspired by the details of mahogany leaves.

Only 5 meters from the gate 7 of Borobudur temple in the east side. You should visit this gallery also to know the history of the Borobudur local artist. He is very humble. He will kindly help us to get a different perspective of the spirit on understanding Borobudur through painting.

Its 25 min away from Borobudur temple, located on the Menoreh Hill, on the southside of Borobudur. You can get there by motorbike and Need extra effort to be there. Actually its higher than Setumbu hill so the sightseeing must be more beautifull.
Tips: Go there at sunrise time, its more beautifull than sunset and not much people there in the morning
