Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Hugary1Sydney, Australia5,801 contributionsPart of our day tour. Driver waited while we explored without a time limit. It is an interesting structure with some great views of the city. The inside Museum requires and extra entry fee while entry into fortress is free. Clean bathrooms.
Plenty of signs and pamphlets to give you the details you might be looking for.

I enjoyed the history.Written 25 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Tobias SSheffield, UK47 contributions4 out of 5 houses (1 living museum, 1 book store, 2 art galleries) are open for free admission so definitely worth a visit if you are in the taipa/cotai area. (approx 30 minutes of visit) The museum is an exhibit of Macanese lifestyle and it's fascinating to see how Portuguese cultures and lifestyle evolved in the Orient. The book store was cute and bougie, we bought a ceramic Portuguese tart cup, some art prints, and handcrafted magnets as souvenirs. Would be great if most bungalows here are converted into living museums because 1 is clearly not enough. Make sure you check out the nearby park and marsh if you're not a fan of casinos.Written 14 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - momma225Geneseo, NY243 contributionsThis is a museum for kids but my husband and I both enjoyed it anyway. Unfortunately none of it is in English and that was a big disappointment. There are plenty of hands on activities for the kids so I would recommend it anyway.Written 24 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - MikeCMelbourneMelbourne, Australia202 contributionsNice museum with plenty of miniature ships and description of fishermen's life in Macau. Just opposite A Ma's temple so it is worthwhile just to drop by. Only a small entrance fee.Written 15 January 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- cora3181Hong Kong, China326 contributionsA well designed infrastructure. I like the steep long corridor connecting 4/F and 3/F, seems walking through a space tunnel under sun. Exhibitions are along good, sometime from China with historical value and sometime contemporary. Always free admission.Written 9 November 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TheOExpress🏴🇭🇰Hong Kong, China4,584 contributions…as the information (including lots of photos and art work) about its construction is pretty interesting. There is also a fair amount of unrelated art and even some free literature relating to the beliefs centred in Kun Lam, which we didn’t take but were of very high quality to be free! As for the statue itself, its imposing size but gentle design gives a mixed impression. However it is no doubt an important part of the seafront and Macau’s history.Written 6 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Steve KNew Taipei, Taiwan737 contributionsGreat to chill out and have a nice cuppa at the cafe whilst browsing some awesome locally designed wares. There’s a performance space and lots more.
A calm oasis of creativity that we will happily return to.Written 5 August 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It sketches the development of the area from regional backwater to the more advanced present. It is interesting to know that shipbuilding and firecracker production were two major industries in the area. Free admission.Written 3 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- BradJillHong Kong, China159,771 contributionsSt. Joseph has long been one of my favourite of the UNESCO World Heritage churches scattered across the Historic Centre of Macau. Here you find a charming church on Rua do Seminario just a couple minutes walk southwest of St. Lawrence's Church. The seminary and church was constructed by the Jesuits in 1758 and has a rich local history as a centre of Christian missionary around Asia. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily and entry is free.
What you will see is church placed up a set of steps, just like the old Church of Mater Dei (called the Ruins of St. Paul's) and delightful facade and charming interior makes for a very nice sightseeing experience but with a fraction of the number of tourists as what you see at fellow World Heritage attractions around Senado Square. Further, like St. Dominic's Church, there is adjacent Treasure of the Sacred Arts Museum at St. Joseph's if you want to see 18th to early 20th century religious artefacts. Allow 20-30 minutes for a combined visit of the church and museum.Written 2 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The first one made us feel as if we are in a video game or a flash drive .
The next one made us feel like we were in a valley of flowers.
The one where we had the most fun was the place where small people live, as we could create and re-create, and create all over again according to our imagination, we spent so much time in this little room, having so much fun.
Lastly, We could jump and play hopscotch, we did the slide. My kid did a very fun trampoline.
We drew we colored, and could see our drawings hopping around everywhere around us . It was truly a magical experience.
Any photo or video of this place cannot do the justice of how we felt there.
The only drawback here I felt was that I could not see any sign for which zone is where and because of which I missed a really interesting one.Written 24 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The receptionist asked if I had seen the Handover Museum next door and mentioned that it also had an art collection.
I hadn’t so headed over. Entry was free and there were certainly lots of visitors, mostly I guessed from mainland China. Museum is spread over three levels and have an exhibition of gifts given to Macau by various provinces of China on its return to the motherland. Many beautiful art works on display with excellent layout.
There is a mix of conventional art work in one gallery - primarily contemporary with some modern with some excellent paintings of Macau and also of the HK - Macau bridge construction.
There are many large gifts in the other hall . Some of precious metal with stones, others of embroidered silk etc. A monumental sculpture from the Thai people of an elephant head and another from elsewhere of a temple. A wonder mixture and you can spend a couple of hours walking around here. A very pleasant museum to spend the afternoon.Written 28 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You may see inside items of donated sacrificial offerings like a portrait of Sacred Heart of Jesus, ivory sculpture of Madonna, a sculpture of Jesus on the Cross & some porcelain. The most precious relic in the Museum of Holy House of Mercy is a manual script of Regulations of Macau’s Holy House of Mercy which was written in 1662.
Entry fee is MOP 5 for adults. students & elderly (above 65 years) can enter for free. Timing 10 am to 5.30 pm. It shows how the Pawn shop stored their goods. How a Pawn shop looks like inside. Interesting. 15 minutes visit will do.Written 3 April 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
