Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,423 contributionsThe main thing we wanted to do at Covadonga was to go up to the lakes, high up in the mountains. We had read all about it being a tortuous drive and that, because of accidents they closed the road and only allowed access by taxis and buses. Clearly that isn’t the case at this time of the year and the road was open and our drive was a case of two extremes.
The first point to make is that the road is generally very good albeit there are several edges with no safety barriers where you have to be cautious. And that was the tale of our upward drive. The traffic was horrendous with queues of dozens and dozens of cars coming to regular standstills whenever they met similar sized queues coming down. Add a few full sized tourist coaches into the mix and it was a bit hairy at times.
Once at the top the views etc were as lovely as expected, but the fact that all facilities, including toilets, were locked shut was rather disappointing.
Now I wouldn’t want my description of the drive up to put people off doing it, and it’s possible that it was just an unfortunate set of circumstances re the traffic, because the drive down was completely the opposite and we almost had the road to ourselves, and had a super drive.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,423 contributionsForget the name of the bridge (unless the Romans were still here in the 14th century) and simply admire it for what it is, ie a stylish, very old, attractive bridge.
I reckon the best way to view it is to cross over it, as it is much steeper than you might think.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Pass the medieval bridge and continue to the beautiful pool (Olla de San Vicente).
It’s a popular swimming spot, but worth the walk and braving the freezing water temperatures, especially to jump into the smaller pool under the waterfall.
Caution - the path is uneven, so although the walk is not long (45mins each way) it’s not suitable for those unsteady on their feet - nor those in flip-flops!
There is limited parking but we found a space further down the road which had an easy walk back to the restaurant.
NB the map location is wrong at time of writing, but hopefully this will get sorted. See directions above if you’re trying to find it.Written 29 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,423 contributionsAs long as there is space in the parking area, this is certainly worth a stop. The views are excellent and you can appreciate just how winding the road you have driven is!Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LouisesyGloucester, UK747 contributionsBeautiful views in a small village. Not much to do apart from relax. Dog friendly decent size car park. Comfy room. The spa was defiantly worth it. Don’t forget your hat and flip flops.
Friendly staff. Large hotel. Breakfast was sufficient.Written 5 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Very cold !!!!but sparkling clean emerald water - beautiful. Practical information - park near to the hotel/restaurant punte dobra on the bridge - the walk is behind the hotel. Our sat nav took us up a horrendous hairpin bend road to middle of nowhere !! Wear sensible shoes as the middle part is quite rocky.Written 11 August 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paul SDublin, Ireland25 contributionsVery interesting scenery and a lovely sculpture. I would have liked to have more information about the place; who mined it and when? What were they mining for? How did they do it and so on. That said it is only a short detour if you are walking the lakes, and I thought it was well worth it.Written 25 September 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - johnhouston2Knaresborough, UK5,423 contributionsThis is certainly an attractive little chapel and the design and interaction with the landscape is excellent.
As a shrine it has both historic and religious significance, but it kind of loses a lot of its mystique by the way it is simply treated as a tourist attraction by the masses who turn up here.
All a bit tacky really.Written 31 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The board helps you identify hills and mountains in the distance.
