Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

    Absolutely gorgeous trail of waterfalls in a beautiful valley. Some slippy narrow spots on the wooden trail so wear shoes with good grip. Signage was translated well and explained all of the features.

    PROS
    * Good cable car
    * Great views
    * Hiking destination, as well as short trail to abandoned hotel Bellevue and train stop of Tramway du Mont Blanc
    * Small food hut
    * The origin is at the bus stop of line #1

    CONS
    The wait and crowd to get squeezed onto the cable car

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... as part of my quest to use every method of ascent to every location in the Chamonix Valley.

    This one starts on the street, easily accessible from bus #1.

    The wait to get into the cable car was long and it was crowded and narrow and uncomfortable to stand on narrow steps.

    At the top, I hiked some of the forested pathways of the Grand Balcon Nord and also went to the abandoned Bellevue Hotel and saw and watched the train stop of the Tramway du Mont Blanc.

    ... and then it rained

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It was covered by the Mont Blanc MultiPass

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Yes

    ADVICE
    * Go and hike
    * Beware of the wait on a narrow crowded stairway at the entrance

    Interesting visit for a couple of hours to see all the dogs St Bernard’s. Amazing history and role these dogs have played in the mountains. You need to speak French to understand the tour.

    PROS
    * Good hiking trail with some shady portions
    * Epic views of snow covered mountains of Swiss Alps
    * Easy access via cable car from Bellevue and gondola at Prarion
    * Less crowded than other places

    CONS
    * Access from Bellevue is through a forest grove and is not super well marked nor evident

    "I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
    ... as part of my successful quest to use every gondola, cable car and chairlift in the Chamonix Valley.

    I started hiking in the shaded forest portion, but then it rained, so I returned to the Bellevue tram station and did not continue. I did, though, visit the abandoned hotel there- that was boring.

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It is free with the Mont Blanc Multipass

    WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
    Yes

    ADVICE
    Do it

    * Good hiking place
    * Epic and stunning panoramic views
    * Easy access from the street to the gondola via bus
    * Not as crowded as other places

    CONS
    * No clear trail markings

    “I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
    … as the final stop of my successful mission to go to every gondola, cable car and chairlift in the Chamonix Valley.

    I explored a group of the trails.

    I rested on the roof of the building

    WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
    It ess covered by the Mont Blanc MultiPass

    WOULD “I VISIT THIS PLACE” AGAIN?
    If it were part of an Alpine hike

    ADVICE
    You could do it

    We stopped here for a few minutes while hiking the TMB segment from Planpraz down to Les Houches. It's right off of the main TMB trail. From the valley in Les Houches, you can see this status up on the hill. As you approach it, though, you can't really see the statue other than a side view. It isn't really worth a special trip here to see it, especially since it's a long hike either way from the valley or from the top of the nearby lift.

    We did appreciate the fact that the front part of the statue's base had a small covered area. From there, we could see nice views down over Les Houches and the river. It was also raining a little when we arrived, so it was a nice place to get out of the rain for a little while.

    I took our two children to the climbing wall - aged 12 and 9. Climbing shoes are available and the rental is included in the price. Neither have climbed before and we arrived unaware that you need to book a lesson if this is your first go or if you need an anchor. We were very lucky as one of the guides was free and so was able to help out but it is best to check. They are very security-focussed and the lovely guide took great care to make sure that the children were safe and enjoying the experience. We would definitely go back. They are open in the summer from 2pm only but on rainy days they open at 10am - the website doesn't really make this clear so double-check and enjoy!
