Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely lake with a nice compact town associated with it. The walk along the lake front to the town was through a park with plenty of views to enjoy. Well worth a visit.

We stayed at Musterers Hut with 5 dads and 5 x 6 year old girls. Everyone had a blast and the facilities had everything you could ever need for a comfortable stay and to cook up a great feed!

As many others have said, this walk is long, relentlessly steep and hard going. But worth it. The comradery among fellow walkers was nice, sharing a laugh along the way. We started a bit after 7 am and saw the sunrise on the way up. There was a bit of cloud at the peak which came and went offering stunning glimpses of the view while we sat eating. Pretty chilly at the top so we needed all our warm clothes. We drank about 2.5 liters of water between two of us. All ages were doing the walk, so if you're somewhat fit you'll be able to do it no worries.

We are staying in Queenstown, which is amazing and wonderful. But it's a little hectic. So we did a day trip to Wanaka and had the best time. It's like Queenstown . . .only chill. Less steep, less traffic, less construction, and more just sunshine, beaches, and fields of grass and happy sheep. If you are here for an extended vacation I'd say spend 1-2 nights in Wanaka just to have a more low key vibe. There are many easy hikes, great beaches all over (we loved swimming here!) and just all the lovely relaxed qualities that most of the world has forgotten.

Will need to book transportation from Wanaka to the Raspberry Hill carpark, think its around $180nzd one way. spent 2 nights at Aspiring hut before doing a day hike to Liverpool hut. I would even just spend a day exploring the lower aspiring valley. I saw like 10 Kea in the area!. booking the hut for 2 nights seemed like a good idea There is lots of time to go at an easy pace and enjoy the scenery. You will need to book through the Department of Conservation NZ web site. If you book, you just need to take cooking stuff and food, The DOC provides a mattress bunk and a gas stove. Aspiring hut is quite big and cozy. There are options to pitch a tent outside; its cheaper but you don't have access to Gas stove. Booking Hut cost $60NZD per person per night

This is just an unbelievable place. It is a collections museum. From bulldozers to teaspoons. It has something for every one. You will leave thinking How? How does anyone amass this much stuff

This walk is often touted as a shorter alternative to Roys Peak. I can say that the views are majestic and worth the steep climb, which only takes 30-40 minutes. It is much better to set off from the carpark in an anti-clockwise direction as you'll be thankful for not having the steepest bit on the way down - saved my knees. But, still, hiking sticks / poles are useful for coming back down.

Having a clear warm day in mid February was a bonus as we took a while up the top to enjoy the scenic views over Lake Wanaka, the surrounding mountains and the township of Wanaka below. My photo was taken a little way from the top, but the view here was still beautiful. This walk is well worth the effort of the climb, especially on a fine clear day.

January was the perfect time to visit Lavender Farm as most plants were in bloom. A fantastic place to visit for garden lovers and families with children. There's a lovely café and a shop where you can buy all those wonderful lavender products. The perfume of the lavender follows you everywhere.

I would put this winery on the must-go-to list if you are in Wanaka. It is a small winery, but the intimacy of the tasting coupled with the quality of the wines made this place stand out. The tasting is at the winemaker's home, complete with dogs and chickens! The winemakers are super friendly and spend time with you explaining the wines an answering questions i a super casual environment. We ended up purchasing a bottle of pinot noir. A unique experience (and we've visiting A LOT of wineries around the world); I highly recommend.

Thanks Monica & Liz! You and the iSite Wanaka team have made booking / planning this trip really easy. Without your help, there would have been a lot of stress, trying to work out timing for accommodation, events and how to pull it all together.

Looking very forward to meeting you when we are in Wanaka soon,

    Best regards,
    David

We hiked all the way to the top and the views were amazing even on a cloudy day. The hike definitely has some steep up sections, and one section is narrow with a sharp drop off. But it's fine for average fit hikers. I'd rate it on the harder end of moderate. Trail head is maybe 15 minutes out of Wanaka.

This vineyard has some mixed reviews that I really don’t understand. My wine tasting experience there was excellent and the range and quantities of wine provided were more than adequate. For those people who know their wines Rippon produce some high quality and different wines. The staff could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable and I cannot think of a better way to spend a little time in wanaka
