What travellers are saying
- Lee LValhalla, NY1,920 contributionsThis is a collection of museums that you can go and visit with 1 ticket.
The Dr Seuss Sculpture Museum is in the courtyard around the other buildings, it is of his famous characters, and they were done by his stepdaughter.
It is easiest to start at the planetarium and science museum because that is where you have to pay or pick up your ticket. The exhibits are a nice walk through of dinosaurs, Africa, Native American culture, space and an exhibit on New England animals.
The George Walter Vincent Smith Museum has a collection of Asian antiques and Middle eastern carpets. I like the samurai armor and various swords and weapons. They also have a plaster cast hall which has replicas of many famous sculptures in other museums like the Vatican Museum or the Louvre.
The Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum is mainly European Art which had a couple exhibits by current artists on the first floor.
The Springfield History Museum tells of the story of the city and has various exhibits on residents and businesses. They have Dr Seuss car here with a Grinch license Plate
The Dr Seuss Museum is obviously geared towards children with all his favorite characters in rooms based on their stories. On the second floor they do have a lot of exhibits about his life, some correspondence and awards that he won.
None of museums really blew me away but they all had some things that were interesting to me and it was a good way to spend a few hours.Written 11 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I did not visit the museum but the general area was a very nice area to walk thru during a mental break from my seminar downtown. Easy walk from downtown. Slightly uphill one way.Written 9 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- David W1 contributionThe Basketball Hall of Fame is terrific, especially for anyone who has followed professional or college basketball over the decades. Lots of well presented information even if you don't pay to get the full experience (we were fine with what was free.)Written 20 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ThoughtsofRSHagerstown, MD1,313 contributionsThe basketball hall of fame doesn’t look like more than a mall in any town USA but it was surprisingly easy to move in, and the court is a great touch for fans to feel the sport.
The HOF is fresh and interactive but I wish the inductees had a physical presence there like Cooperstown’s plaques and Canton’s busts.
They have their place but in digital form, which is fine but I still wish there were more.
The gift shop was nice but overpriced and didn’t have a lot of items for teams and inductees.

We especially love Doce Mercer, known for corporate gift boxes and confections, but here at the local market with homemade Portuguese-style breads like English muffins, Portuguese rolls, and focaccia. Michelle and her daughter Martika offer excellent bread goods, and quite affordable, if not a wee bit underpriced in this economy. We're grateful for the good deals, but want them to stay in biz.
We also get our bakery breads from Berkshire Mountain Bakery, because their sourdough breads and pastries are the best anywhere. We find their breads life-changing because they're really breads, made with double fermentation and offering an amazing variety like jalepino-cheese ciabattas, San Francisco sourdough and baguettes. Amazing breads.
Tom's honey products and fresh farm eggs is another "can't miss" vendor, who even with the rising egg prices has kept his product very affordable.
Also we love Plum Island Jams, which have to be the best on the planet. The pineapple coconut is my fav, but there isn't one I can resist.
Of course we love fresh produce, and there are several choices at the market.
Families can also find picnic table where they can enjoy food truck fare from hot dogs to ice cream to pizza and more.
Then there's the park itself offering great scenery and a zoo.Written 20 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The entry fee is for 5 museums, but absolutely worth it. We did not children with us and still had a great time. Car parking is free. Unfortunately the cafe was closed, and there did not seem to be another nearby. We were advised to use the coffee shop (The Roasted Bean) in the local casino, which was pretty good.Written 22 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LoriLovesFoodLowell, MA237 contributionsDon't look for a big sign to know you arrived at the right place. This little "museum" is inside a place called Henry's Jewelry. There is a small sign in the window that lets you know you found the Titanic Historical Society. A nice woman showed us to the back room where all sorts of memorabilia and other things regarding the Titanic and its sister ships. The room is split into two areas and is packed with tons of things to look at and read. There are Titanic books and souvenirs for sale. The woman behind the counter shared several stories about the Titanic and was very informative, pointing out interesting things and anything she thought we might have missed. It was worth the small price of admission. The actual store was strange, containing very old greeting cards and old jewelry that seemed to have been there for decades.Written 29 December 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca ORidgewood, NY1,737 contributionsThe parking is to the right and then you have to walk. We just drove by to see it but it was chilly so we didn’t stop.Written 17 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
