What travellers are saying
- V.I010421Massachusetts10 contributionsTop 3 beaches in Maui, If not the best! This beach has tons of space to move around for everyone. This spot on Big Beach cost $10 to park, but is well worth it! Beautiful water, lots of people; but tons of parking and space on the beach for everyone!Written 1 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deeee1985San Diego, CA131 contributionsIt's shared between The Grand, The Marriot resort, and the villas. It's also a public beach. There are chairs that are coordinated through a beach valet and hotel guests first come, first serve each morning. The beach is so clear and calm and shallow for long! We paddle boarded, boogie boarded, and kayaked here. Even had some green sea turtles come up to say hello while kayaking. The sand is incredibly soft and has an interesting red tone.Written 12 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - mkregeDurham, NC133 contributionsGreat walking path with lovely view. It is often crowded with lots of folks doing the same path. Walks along the back end of several hotels, and lots of beach beach.Written 21 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - WikumjBromley, UK202 contributionsA lovely all-rounder beach which had calm waters when we went and picturesque views. Better snorkelling opportunities at the nearby Maluaka beachWritten 8 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - roderick M134 contributionsThere is good snorkelling here around the north end rocks. A beautiful , 1,500 ft or so stretch of golden, soft sandy beach with good entries. Great place for families with children to frolic in the surf and boogieboard and swim. A good beginners diving area offshore here. Parking is tight at times as shared with three beaches, so get there early. Lovely views here of the turquoise ocean, offshore islands, lava outcrops and sunsets. Highly recommend this gorgeous beach in the Wailea area.Written 16 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - ChristopherRSmithMinneapolis, MN13 contributionsThis beach is not for everyone, but if you like to swim naked and lay on warm sands in the Maui sun, this is a best spot on the Hawaiian islands. Some folks are nude and some are not, but everyone has a fine time. Very gay friendly. Loved it.Written 23 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- WikumjBromley, UK202 contributionsThe waters at this beach were so clear and clean it was like being in a swimming pool! This beach gave us one of the best snorkelling experiences on our trip, as the waters are calm. The best areas are around the rocks to the south. We saw plenty of fishes of various colours and sizes, black crabs, urchins, and a flat fish. Also there’s a large tree near the south end of the beach that provides a lot of shade, which was great for us to base ourselves under as we didn’t have an umbrella.Written 8 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bryan C1 contributionAs beaches were meant to be…
Public parking is available but entrance to the beach (10’ wide public right away) is well marked. It’s about 1/4 walk from parking to the beach sand.
Sandy part of beach is wide but beach itself is long coastal so you can enjoy a long walk and sunset is beautiful during the summer months
There are area that sun worshipers were sunbathing in their birthday suits.
I didn’t see any bathroom or wash off area and definitely no shops.
If you are in Waikiki/Honolulu area and this might be a good day trip to get away people. Swimming in July was very nice even though it was a very windy day.
There are no shades in the AM hours so take some that can withstand some windy conditions.Written 28 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It was a fun stop just walking distance from our resort. We wanted to go first thing in the morning so we would have time to make it to the beach but most of the stores didn't open until 10 or later.Written 13 April 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - SleepyTravellersMelbourne, Australia131 contributionsSimple life of swimming with the turtles. It is a small, sandy beach in a lava rock cove. There is a public toilet here and parking for about 20-odd cars.Written 17 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - alaskantravelnutAnchorage623 contributionsThis is a nice beach which is more popular with locals than tourist. It is not as long as some other beaches in the area, and it is somewhat steeper. There is a short trail to the beach. Park by the porta-potty on Makena Rd. There is good shade where the trail meets the beach. Snorkeling on the south end is very good all the way to Po’olenalena Beach.Written 16 March 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Joanne MVenice, FL7 contributionsI have never seen such big waves in person. There is a warning that if you're not a strong swimmer to stay out. Beautiful to look at, did not go in.Written 8 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Catherine BSt George, United States52 contributionsPerfect beach for family, sand is not rocky, you can see sea turtles near rocks and fish swimming. Lots of shade, get here at 7 am to get perfect spot. Waves are good. Free parking with bathrooms. Sand gets hot so wear water shoes or sandals right to water.Written 22 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Caroline LLos Angeles, CA2,312 contributionsFantastic beach as it’s wide open. Went during the week and it was hardly crowded. There is paid parking at lots not too far. The current was a bit strong and the shore dropped pretty quick so not a great beach for kids. I however loved trying to body surf the waves and taking pics of the beautiful scenery. A must do when in Maui!Written 30 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ITRTVirginia37,879 contributionsLocated in Makena, Maui, the view from this church and grounds cannot be more picturesque. Besides views of the Pacific Ocean, has views of the West Maui Mountains, Lana'i, Kaho'olawe, and the Molokini crater. Founded in 1832, it is one of the oldest churches on Maui. The church was originally built of Pili grass but was rebuilt of stone and wood. Locals refer to it as “the old stone church”. There is a small cemetery on the side closest to the ocean. Some of the grave sites date back to the founding of the church. One of the most interesting is the remains of an ancient Hawaiian woman. In 2004, a columbarium, known as Pō‘aialoha was dedicated. The church is home to an active worshiping congregation with two services on Sundays: one in English and one in Hawaiian.Written 19 June 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
