This is not your grandma's museum. It is not all hushed-tones and Monet's. It is a beautiful space, packed with so much indigenous art and educational installations. It was full of families, and kids, and seemed to attract locals and tourists. One of the most stunning Museum stores I've ever seen.

The Coastal Trail is an 11-mile bike trail starting in downtown Anchorage. It traverses the coast, as you’d expect, providing many scenic views, as well as marshes, and forests. Along the way there are signs about the 1964 earthquake, the planets and the wildlife and you can watch airplanes come in for a landing at the foot of the international airport’s runway. I saw multiple moose in the forest along the side of the road. The Trail is completely paved and generally in good condition with only a few bumps. There are no road crossings at all. It has a hilly section in the middle (150 feet maximum climb) and a very steep hill at the end (200 feet in less than a mile). The Trail is not that crowded but it’s not a great course for fast rides as it has many sharp, blind curves.

Nice cultural center with some good presentations on the culture, music, games and stories of the Alaskan natives. After the presentations there is a tour that takes you through the grounds which includes some buildings and totems that have been replicated. Also a small museum with information about the different Alaskan tribes. There are also tables with vendors selling native jewelry, toys and books in the main building. Very interesting and worth about a half day.

This was part of the Turnagain tour we took that included a boat tour of the glacier. It was so awesome to get up close to the glacier. Our tour guide was very informative and helpful.

You might think that the way up is easier than the way down, Nope! You will use muscles you did not know you had to go back down. Iphone counted as 110 floors. Make sure to take some water, maybe something to eat. And take a picture by the flag pole.

Traveled to Byron Glacier with a tour guide. It was fantastic. The ice has expanded exponentially and is the largest it has been since before the Industrial Revolution. We learned that the glaciers have increased and decreased in size for centuries based on el Nina or La Niña (sp)….recommend this trip.

If you are near Eagle River WI by all means stop at the Ice Castle. It took many volunteers long hours to harvest the ice and build this monument,

Everything here was well-organized, the people were very helpful, bathrooms were clean, there's a giftshop and a nice coffee bar. What else do you need from a train depot? Maybe could have used more seating I guess but not like you're spending hours here anyways.

Chugach State Park offers some of the best sightseeing in SouthCentral Alaska. Wildlife can be observed from the highways and state maintained trails within the park.

I was visiting Alaska - Anchorage specifically for the first time, while I was at a conference for work. We had some free time, and I looked up some things to do. The tram came up as a recommended activity, and boy did it not disappoint!

The tram is located at the Alyeska resort, which is about a 50 minute drive from Anchorage.

We bought the $60 package, that gave you a ride on the tram, and $25 to spend on food up at the top of the mountain.

The tram takes you only 2,000 feet up (which is crazy, because it seems like it would be a lot higher!). There are walking trails that you can get there as well.

On the way up, you can start to see some breathtaking views of Alaska.

We were there in September, so it wasn't snowy, but surrounding us were mountain peaks that were topped with snow.

We also ate in the café, and the food was great!

Totally recommend as a day trip from Anchorage if you have the time!

This area is breathtaking and has so many moods! We spend time here throughout the year. There are so many options for activities here. We hike, bike, ATV, paddle, Ice-skate and ski. There are great day trip activities and if you are feeling a longer trip there are multi-day routes and options for any mode of travel! Eklutna Lake Bookings is a great option for a weekend get away or group trip.
