What travellers are saying
- shellejcatsLeawood, KS8 contributionsShin was an awesome guide and shared so much interesting information with us. The views were out of this world! It was so cool to be at the balmy beautiful beach on one day and then the next day be up amongst the clouds seeing the ocean from the top of the world. The sky was massive and the stars were so bright.Written 8 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Keith H11 contributionsSpectacular beach with white sand among rocks. Moderate difficulty to access water but sandy bottom with few rocks. Was great for swimming first day then surf was too high the next. That day got to watch some very skilled boogie boarders.Written 3 February 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - D. Ryan B3 contributionsLed by Candee, tour was very informative and enjoyable. We learned about farming vanilla from start to finish and enjoyed the ice cream at the end. The shop has lots of items at good prices.Written 13 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Kathy DSaint Louis, MO435 contributionsAt first glance, this place looks like just another pile of black lava boulders. But don't be fooled! Pick up a map at the Visitors' Center, and hike the short trail. The trail is flat, but rocky, so wear good shoes and watch where you walk. You will discover petroglyphs, fish ponds, and historic buildings.
The trail opens onto a charming beach where you can wade in the crystal-clear water. If you see turtles (you probably will), please watch them from a respectful distance.Written 8 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You’ll get to hold one at the end for a few minutes.

Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Mike FAntigo, WI653 contributionsI’d vote this my favorite beach. It’s tough, but the variety of rocks, sand, snorkeling and fewer people give this one the win for me. No showers or bathroom and it’s either a 2 mile or 3.5 mile one way unless your vehicle can drive down.
Absolutely stunning all the way around! I’d love to camp down here sometime! The two mile trek from the highway isn’t bad and it’s so worth it if that’s your only option, which was us.
Saw our first monk seal here! Just a really cool, beautiful place!Written 14 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Hiked down to the lagoon and spent a few hours swimming with turtles, enjoying the views and having a picnic.Written 7 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RamilHouston, TX371 contributionsAs with many beaches within city limits, there is really not much to write home about -pretty standard access, rocks and few homeless roaming around.Written 18 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jenningsfmLincolnton, GA14 contributionsHubby is a home brewer, and I'm his assistant. We loved taking this tour. Our guide was a home brewer also, and the discussions were great. Learning about the father son team and where they have taken their dream was very heartwarming. Of course, seeing all those shinny boilers and hearing about the hopping, fermentation, and extracts was icing on the cake. I won't give away the entire tour secrets because you really need to take this tour. Informative and fun. Save the souvenir shopping for the end of the tour. You will be glad you did!Written 10 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- COTraveller33Silver Spring, MD3,693 contributionsSo - we stayed across the street at the White Sands Villas (VRBO I believe). Great place.
The first day at this beach was awful. The surf was intense, sporadic and pounding. We found out later on that it was due to some off-shore winds, and that our first day was unusual.
Going back later in the week -- the surf was perfect or boogie boards. Watch out for little local punks -- who think they run the beach, Even though they're just hoalies too.
To the north end, under the restaurant -- there's some amazing snorkling. Tons of reef life - but the surf WILL pound you into the reef if you get too close. So plan for abrasions.
On the south end, and elsewhere -- there was this awesome Green sea turtle just cruising back and forth.
Parking: Packed, Street only due to lot being repaired.
Busy: Very. Best to find a spot under the trees and in the shade.
Amenities: Bathrooms only
