- PaulBeveRidgeway, SC363 contributionsVisited May 9 - May 13 2022. Awesome park. We stayed on the Tennessee side and enjoyed that so much we will be staying on the North Carolina side in September of 2023.
When visiting one of the big POPULARE National Parks the key is planning. Ideally, find out what the peak season is and don't go then. :-) This is why we chose the middle of May, schools are still in session.
Anything that you do, start early. Day 1 we went to the visitor center and checked that out and got some brochures. When we got there we arrived early, no line. When we left there was a line of people waiting to get in. We then spent time just driving around soaking it all in.
Speed limit is no more than 35 MPH. If you are in a hurry, go somewhere else. I drive at least the speed limit or 5 over, don't tailgate.
Cades Cover got there early had no traffic issues and had no issue pulling off at pull overs to see what we wanted to see.
Laurel Falls, got there early and had a parking spot ight at the trail head. When we were done there were people parking a long distance a away and having to hike to start their hike.
We did ONE thing on a whim, the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail and wished we hadn't. It was mid afternoon and by the time we figured out it was a mistake, this happened about 50 feet after starting, there was no turning back. If we had gone early, no problems.
For our time there I considered early as between 8AM - 9AM. Peak season I am sure that wouldn't help. Late would also work, say dinner time.
The key to ALL National Parks is doing lots of research and lots of planning. Visit the National Park websites as they have all the latest information such as road closures.Written 17 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - kmac2400Wheeling, IL83 contributionsWe had a rainy day and were staying next door at Margaritaville Resort. Walked over and spent almost 3 hours touring. The displays are amazing, particularly the underwater tunnel beneath the sharks and sea turtles. The admission is fairly high and could become costly for a family; particularly a large one. Look for discount options on-line, etc. before going to save some money. We had to wait to purchase tickets. I can see that could be frustrating during prime tourist season so consider pre-purchasing.Written 12 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- James BellWinston, GA20 contributionsFirst time stopping here. Almost walked by cause we’ll, you just get tired of moonshine up here! However, this is worth the stop. They use 100% corn mash to start, no sugar wash like some up here do. There flavors, while robust, aren’t sickening sweet.
And if you get Lori (hope I chose the right spelling), you are sure to have a great experience.
Just a side note, be polite and courteous to your bartender at these places, it owes a long way.Written 17 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC. - TravelingJohnB80Martinsburg, WV484 contributionsNice view of the surrounding area from a pull-off on the side of the road.
