- Jeff D3 contributionsHad a great evening at the cutwater distillery. We were two couples visiting from Ontario, Canada. We had recently discovered the product at home. When we found out their home base was in San Diego we made a point of visiting on a recent business/pleasure trip. The south pacific decor and vibe was fun and the menu was creative and tasty. Some of the drinks are strong so be warned, but the variety and quality of their product makes for a fun time. Our server Kalee was friendly and knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. - SoCalQTPie199 contributionsI’m not a huge rum fan, but this distillery won me over. In an area of town that is dominated by craft beers, this is a nice change of pace. From the outside, this place looks like a random office building, but once inside, you are transported to the deck of a ship that inspires you to enjoy the experience. In addition to rum, they also have a vodka, bourbon, and a whiskey, but the best surprise of my visit was tasting their Cabernet barrel aged rum. Very small venur so i can see this place getting packed quickly over the weekends. Great beer as always from Mikkeller. The tasting is worth the fee!
They offer tastings that include mini cocktails. They start you off with the base spirit and then add various ingrefients based on your specific palate prefferences. This is a very artful culinary tasting...but served in the middle of the distillery ...located in a warehouse district.
This elevated tasting is worthy of your time. You will certainly want to purchase bottles to take home for future enjoyment!
Fyi: Their website posts very nice cocktail recipes for each if their various offerings.

Got to discover the duck pupusas which were delish. Surprised by how good the house wine. Despite them being out of the item were came for —-I would come back. Try this place out. - 10ringtravelerAlpine, CA709 contributionsFirst visit to a craft distillery and was hooked right away! We drove into the complex and thought we were in the wrong place. Once we found it my wife chose to wait in the car. I was only gonna run in and buy some Rye Whiskey and be right back out. Once inside I knew she would love the decor and went outside to get her.
She is not a big Whiskey fan but really liked the tasting/sales area. We talked with the host for only a few minutes and made my purchase. Once at home my nephew came over and we each had a glass. We both enjoyed it and I plan on purchasing at least a couple more bottles. The Rye Whiskey has a very strong, very good taste! I am sure their other products are just as good and I plan on trying those too!
