Been to Portaventura 3 times within the last week while on holiday in the area.

This is a typical theme park like Alton Towers, Pleasure Beach, & Thorpe Park in the UK. If you like visiting those three UK parks in August, you will enjoy Portaventura.

The rides are good - there is a kids Sesame Street land with decent rides, there are a fun bunch of thrill rides including a tall freefall tower, there are 3 different water rides, and there are 4 big rollercoasters (Shambhala, Dragon Khan, Furious Baco, Stampida) which match-up well against top UK rides at AT, BPP, and TP.
Shambhala is the particular favourite of my party, which rides like a MUCH smoother version of the Big One at BPP with plenty of airtime hills.

The park is probably 1 or 2 top rollercoasters short of fully matching AT, BPP, or TP for adults, but still has lots of entertaining rides to do.

The queue times have been pretty consistently 40-60 minutes on the days I have been there (Thurs, Sat, Mon), which is relatively high, but is ultimately in line with most popular parks during August holidays.

Staff have been efficient at getting people on and off rides, and none of the major rides were out of action for any large parts of the day.

There is a little bit of queue jumping to watch out for and some smoking in queues. However, staff are active in trying to stop antisocial behaviour.
As an example, I watched security pull two wannabe queue jumpers from a ride queue one evening and escort them out of the area.

Food is good quality (though theme park prices) and there are plenty of food stops in each area ranging from standard burger/hot dog & chips to burritos, noodles, yoghurts, and salads.
Water fountains are located at most toilets but usually have long queues. You are going to need to carry water or stop regularly for drinks in the August heat.

    Other bits to note:

The theme park is open 10:00-23:00 not midnight, this is clearly signposted.
Water rides shut at 21:00 when it gets dark (also signposted), however ALL other rides were open until 23:00 when we were there.
    - The theme park is not a heat trap. Spain in August is very hot but the theme park itself is no hotter than being at the nearby beach.

Very pretty worth a visit in the Evening. We had a late night stroll and was surprised how heaving it was along the whole of the front and kids playing in the nearby water sprinkles.

Top tips - arrive before opening time. We had no queue to pick up pre ordered express passes and only a 5 min wait for locker.
No trouble getting 4 sunbeds either.
We did lazy river first as not included in fast passes.
Park great with lots of pools but if you want to do the big rides express passes are a must.
You can not only go in the express entrance for rides but also to collect mats/rings as well.
Would have been 5stars but the queues for food were horrific - we waited more than 30 mins for cheap overcooked chicken and chips.
Bags searches poor so would take my own food next time.

I had a room at Salou Beach by Pierre hotel, only 300 yards away from this beach. We did not need to look for another one. Absolutely beautiful. Bar close to the beach, I have read here that it was expensive...well, if you pay 3.20 Euros for a good quality bottled beer, that's not expensive, when the waves of the sea are at your feet. Did swim at 21:00, in a warm sea, on 3 rd of September, and the bar was still open, for late night visitors, with torches and staff around. It was such a nice evening. Will have to go again.

The best part of Salou. Almost do not want to let anyone know to go here so it does not get overrun by tourists like the other two beaches nearby! I loved that you could swim far out and still be able to stand up.

I was staying in Salou and cycled here a couple of times. There is a coastal footpath you can also walk it. I’d suggest if cycling have a good bike or be prepared to have to push up some steep slopes! If you’re in a family with young children best to take the car.

I don’t understand the negative reviews of this beach. For me it was perfect. Clear & clean water. Great for snorkelling in the rocky areas & swimming. Plenty of bins and also a bar on the beach and toilets. I walked up to a cafe at the top of the slope as they had a good food menu which included takeaways so sat on the beach.

It was never to busy but mainly locals rather than tourists.

A relaxing, quiet place in the centre of Salou. Plenty of shaded seats with the sound of running water - there are ponds and small water falls to listen to, make this a nice place to stop for a few minutes.
There is a cafe and climbing frames for children.

We happened upon this little cove while out for a walk on our second night in Cap Salou. Its about 200ft wide so not that big. The night we went, there was an awful smell down there. So we never went back again after that. The water is calm though. There is no shower facilities like you see on some of the other beaches. There was about 10 other people on the beach so not really that busy. You have to walk down a good few steps to get to the beach, so not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies.(Unless you carry them). I probably wouldn't rush back here again, as in my opinion there are better beaches about.
The kids had fun in the sea though!!

There's not many play parks in Salou but this is certainly a good one. There's swings, slides, a climbing frame and some other bits.
It's not big but its a decent size, should keep the little ones happy for an hour or so.

Ponent is one of the some beaches located in Salou, a coastal and touristic town in the South of Catalonia, near Tarragona. It is a very long beach of sand, where you can relax, walk, see peole, do a pique-nique and, obivously, bath and sunbath all day. It is a very nice place to come with friends, the couple or children and stay all day. Also, on sand, there are bars, where you can drink or eat something. We came here in July-2021, and it was not full of people due to pandemic and that the beach is very long. Very good place to bath.
