We visited the winery at Curly Flat for a wine tasting and we were not disappointed. The winery is beautiful- very old and beautifully restored. The wines were very good and well priced. We highly recommend.

The Lost Watering Hole is a nice place for lunch. The food was good and reasonably priced. The beer from their brewery was really good. The only negative comment from me is that they have unisex bathrooms.

There's loads of options for a jaunt round the vineyards near Melbourne but Macedon Ranges I think trumps Yarra Valley and Mornington because its not too busy so most of the time you're tasting with the owners and most of them seem to be massive, sometimes eccentric, super-passionate characters. We came for the Budburst festival in November and at Lyons Will met Ollie and Renata who seem to be the young guns of the area and have just released their first wines. They were very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate, have a great view of the valley and some tasty pinot and charday. Heartily recommended!

Lancefield was declared a parish in 1906 and in 1919 Fr Harnett, Lancefield’s first parish priest, brought the Sisters of St Joseph to staff the schools at Lancefield and Romsey.

However the foundation stone was laid on 19 October 1872 and the church was opened on 15 December 1873. So the church had been active for many years prior to it the town becoming a parish.

Prior to the erection of the church building services had been held in the Court House, Town Hall and private homes.

The church is very similar to one in nearby Romsey and currently services are held in both churches.

I feel that if you are ever in a town and you have time you should visit local galleries. This one is small but has a range of amazingly eclectic art at very reasonable prices.

Metal sculptures, local landscapes and botanical art are among the works to be discovered. The artists who have their works in here are residents of the area. I have often found that people overlook small galleries like this one, but these galleries give us opportunities to own something unique... something that no-one else owns.

Either way, even if you simply go into the gallery to admire the work... the artists will appreciate your interest.

Between 1865 and the mid-1870s several civic and religious institutions were opened in Lancefield: the school (1865), Anglican church (1868), Presbyterian church (1876) and the mechanics’ institute (1877). During the 1880s a railway line from Clarkefield was opened (1881), a Catholic school was begun (1885) and a water trust was established. A second railway from Kilmore was opened in 1892, but closed in 1904.

This town exists about midway between Kilmore and Kyneton and first impressions are of the wide streets, a welcoming feel but there is certainly no buzz. It has not as yet, been affected by the city.

So what will you find now at this church that has existed since 1868? It's not on the Main Street, so the block of land it is located on is quite large. There is a lovely white picket fence out the front and it's quite orderly. It does look like the grand churches we saw on postcards from yesteryear... so it's worth stopping to have a look around it . The sign indicates that it currently has services operating on Sundays and Wednesdays.

It is located on the median strip opposite a garage ( that despite it's age is still an ongoing venture). If you are in town, it's worth a moment to reflect on the impacts of the wars to this small town. There is also a small plaque on a stone for those who fought in the Boer war.

There is a lot to take in when you visit the cemetery in Lancefield... firstly note it is on the edge of town...so you will need a car to access. The road in and out of the cemetery is in good condition... you will need to walk into the cemetery. (please pay attention to the signs indicating where you can access it, access is limited) Whilst looks can be deceiving and you may think you don't need to worry about where your feet are... I saw several rabbits and hares here and they were all happy and healthy and digging holes.

The cemetery is very expansive and really interesting to look around. There is a rotunda here with a beautiful rose garden- maybe rabbits don't like rose gardens.

If you enjoy historical graves, then you are really going to enjoy your time here. One stand out for me was for the Reverend John Christian MacCullach who was Dean of Bendigo. He died in 1917 at the age of 85. He was the first Church of England Clergyman of Lancefield and Romsey Parochial District - appointed in 1863. Buried with him are his wife and nephew.

Not too far from this grave you will see a headstone for The Reverend Amos Brazier who died in 1910. He is buried with his wife, Jessie.

Great golf course - interesting and not always easy - beautiful condition and highly recommended. Was quiet on the day we went and sounds like it easy to get a game with no waiting. Volunteers look after the course and it is in wonderful condition

When I stepped into this little tea house, first impression is its brightness and colors. It is small but pleasantly and colorfully decorated. Besides the dining area, there are rooms display gift items and clothing. As for the food, choice is not many but enough for a light lunch. The Shepherd Pie that we ordered is good, steamy hot when served, just like freshly baked from the oven. The scone we had for dessert, served with cream and jam, is properly warmed up. Though I would like to have less sweet jam next time. The owner cum chef Andrea and her mother Beth were very friendly to make you feel welcome and well taken care of. Well done.
