Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A must see and do in the South Gippsland area. Innovative ciders, locally sourced food platters and amazing views.

    Hosts are always very welcoming.

Its our "go to" when we want to show off to visitors what Gippsland has to offer.

On a stormy day in late January popped in for restaurant tips (outside BBQ not an option in rain).
Friendly lady was patient and kind. Provided a few options to consider.
Also collected a handy map of Prom Country for next day tripping.

This has to be one of the finest coastal views in Australia - looking out to the Bass Strait across Corner Inlet to the northern peaks of Wilsons Promontory National Park and to Waratah Bay. Jaw-droppingly gorgeous, except for those overhead powerlines that are unavoidable in any camera shot. Move the power lines and it would be a 10/10 experience.

From Gippsland Highway turn off its approx 30 mins to drive. There is a small water fall first on your left side
Then drive a little bit further to find the Turton creek falls
    Certainly worth the drive

I have been meaning to look through this museum for years...but never made it there. Today may have been the very best day I could have chosen to visit. There were two older chaps in there as volunteers, both in their 80s ( Yes, they shared this with me) who were amazing to chat to. They were super friendly and super knowledgable about the area... you couldn't help but like them. Clearly they have been friends for a long time.

The museum is conveniently located next to the Information Centre, across from the public amenities... and it's quite reasonably priced to go in. It was $5 for me as I had no concessions. I really enjoyed looking around and seeing what was on offer. There is much to learn about the local area...but what I loved more was the stories the gents had to tell... about the loved publican from the local pub... about where things were located in town and what's there now... I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. And if I could guarantee those two cheeky chaps would be there... I would return regularly!

It's easy to get around ... parking out the front... incredible local information... what's not to like about this?!??

There are a lot of reserves around the Foster area --Whipstick Gully Natural Features Reserve, Wonga Wonga South Bushland Reserve and New Zealand Hill Nature Conservation Reserve... to name a few. They are easily located near the town and the walks will take you from 15 minutes plus to do.

The Foster Flora Reserve is located in the heart of Foster township. Hayes Walk begins in town in the carpark behind the shops. Cody-Gully & Ophir Mine walks begin from McDonald Street and New Zealand Hill can be accessed opposite the Comfort Inn Motel off the South Gippsland Highway.

Today was perfect weather to go looking around Foster... sunny with a breeze. The reserve is harder to access by car than it is to walk...so if you like to bushwalking, this town is for you. The reserve I spent the most time in was the New Zealand Hill one...but if you have time to explore, you should seek them out and enjoy the beautiful walks on offer.

I have always had a fascination with cemeteries ... long before I studied literature, but wandering through a cemetery often reminds me of my favourite poem. Emily Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death". It romanticises Death and makes it an appealing venture.

Everyone has a story... a legend of their life... from birth to their death... even those who died too early. They have made their mark on someone's life and cemeteries are where we say goodbye ... our final epitaph. A century can pass and someone like myself stops to read the headstone and wonder what the story is behind it.

This cemetery was established in 1871 and here... you can, for a moment, bring that person's memory to the surface, even without the details.

The rail trail is fabulous for walking/riding and is well maintained. Beautiful scenery, rolling green hills, views to the coastline, old railway bridges, shady trees and picnic tables along the way. Plenty of birdlife and critters to see, as well as farm animals in the paddocks.
Great way to relax with family.
We like to stop in at Gurneys Cidery on the way from Foster towards Fish Creek (access direct from the rail trail), or head in to Foster township for various coffee/lunch options.

Located in a small laneway adjacent to a Food Works store is a creative alternative to a fountain called Steampunk Water Maze created by a local artist and commissioned by South Gippsland Shire Council and South Gippsland Water with a message to conserve water.Definitel worthy of a look.
