Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived to see the first Agricultural Show in 3 years but unfortunately it was washed out. However we then had all morning to wander the streets of Clunes taking in the history and sights around the town. It is well worth visiting - a step back in time.

Just returned from five nights stay at Tinakori. As with our previous stay Janet and Ian were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home.
Our eleven year old son did not want to leave he enjoyed it so much, especially feeding the baby wallabies.
Definitely worth a visit for anyone who loves wildlife and creating wonderful memories which will last a lifetime.

Turn into Suburban St. on the way to the scenic drive above Clunes. Further on is the Port Phillip Mine Site (1851) with information board. The Port Phillip Company was one of the top five productive gold mines in Victoria, producing 16,000 kilograms of gold. Operation ceased in 1891. There is not much left other than a mullock heap or two and a poppet head (reconstructed). Further along is the James Esmond obelisk. He was the first to discover payable gold in Vic and announce it. Others had discovered it before but kept it quiet for obvious reasons. Nice views across Clunes on the drive.

Given the significance of the impact of the gold rush on Victoria, we expected a major monument to mark the site where gold was first found in Victoria. When we arrived, it was somewhat of a disappointment.

This is one of the oldest churches in Clunes and is of an impressive design. It is bluestone, with a tall turret and a Gothic window. It also has an organ of some significance.

St Paul's is an impressive bluestone building, dating back to the early 1870s. However, the site has two other points of interest. It has a war memorial and an organ, which each rate mentions in the significant items of the town. The church is high on a hill overlooking the town.

The monument commemorates those from the district who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

The memorial was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action World War Two were added at a later date, as was a plaque commemorating later conflicts.

It is erected in a commanding position at the intersection of Fraser and Service streets, and is 17 feet high, consisting of bluestone foundation and granite centre, with a marble figure of a soldier standing on top. Erected in honor of all who enlisted from Clunes and district for the Great War, 1914- I8. Also in memory of the fallen. Pass not this stone in sorrow, but with pride, and may you live as nobly as they died.” On the sides are the names of the fallen, numbering 31.

Built in the 1870s, it was based on designs from bigger towns and does seem a bit grand for Clunes. It is now de-consecrared and has a memorial tablet that mentions Bishop Mulkearns.
