- KWal1 contributionJust returned from five nights stay at Tinakori. As with our previous stay Janet and Ian were incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home.
Our eleven year old son did not want to leave he enjoyed it so much, especially feeding the baby wallabies.

- ArchaeobuffSydney, Australia2,032 contributionsTurn into Suburban St. on the way to the scenic drive above Clunes. Further on is the Port Phillip Mine Site (1851) with information board. The Port Phillip Company was one of the top five productive gold mines in Victoria, producing 16,000 kilograms of gold. Operation ceased in 1891. There is not much left other than a mullock heap or two and a poppet head (reconstructed). Further along is the James Esmond obelisk. He was the first to discover payable gold in Vic and announce it. Others had discovered it before but kept it quiet for obvious reasons. It has a war memorial and an organ, which each rate mentions in the significant items of the town. The memorial was originally erected to commemorate those who died in service or were killed in action in World War One. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action World War Two were added at a later date, as was a plaque commemorating later conflicts.
It is erected in a commanding position at the intersection of Fraser and Service streets, and is 17 feet high, consisting of bluestone foundation and granite centre, with a marble figure of a soldier standing on top. Erected in honor of all who enlisted from Clunes and district for the Great War, 1914- I8. Also in memory of the fallen.
