Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Linda WNew South Wales, Australia41 contributionsBooked the 2hr adventure tour, what a great morning. Simon, our skipper, did his utmost to make sure we enjoyed the trip. We didn't manage to see dolphins or sharks but there were fur seals, sea eagles, and flying fish. Simon kept a running commentary on local landmarks, walks and history. Would definitely do it again..Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Julie A4 contributionsThe skipper Simon was so patient and we ended up having a fantastic cruise. A mother and calf put on a show for us. The boat was comfortable and handled the conditions beautifully. I highly recommend whale watching in MerimbulaWritten 24 October 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Anthony RMarsfield7 contributionsGreat 4 hour fishing trip….taken to all the right spots…reef and sandy bottom..as a result everyone caught flathead…average better than 8 each person…and the coffee and donuts at Mitch’s jetty coffee cart could not be better…will certainly go again when next in Merimbula. Thanks for this mornings outing.Written 26 March 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- John AAustralian Capital Territory, Australia30 contributionsEven though it says Merimbula, we took the cruise from Eden (these are apparently "Cat Balou" under new name?).
End of November, supposed to be end of whale season yet we saw whales for almost the entire cruise. Sometimes closer, sometimes farther away, but definitely whales. Some dolphins were also cruising together with the boat. Nick, the person on deck with us was wonderful.
We were also lucky enough to have a relatively calm sea in an otherwise windy week...

- Shane E1 contributionWhat an experience Reel Affair was! Captain Phil was more than happy to accomodate me and my small family (8 years and 16 months).
Both Phil and Ryan had outstanding service and we couldn’t have been happier with their hospitality. I highly recommend this charter for any families who wish to get a line in the reef! Seeing the Whales, seals and Rays was also a nice little extra highlight to our adventure!Written 10 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jan TGeelong, Australia100 contributionsAs a group of 4, we had to coax 2 in the group to join the tour, but they quickly joined when they were enticed with a tasting at the end. We were so lucky to have been informed about the oyster industry in the region, by the friendly Martin. So informative and interesting, we were all amazed at the time taken to bring the oysters to our tables. We all enjoyed this little tour. Thanks Martin!Written 3 March 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TheDoor_isopenTuggeranong, Australia2,887 contributionsThe Park Run is held every Saturday starting at the Eastern side of the bridge across the lake. There is a big car park nearby if you drive there. It’s a very picturesque route across the bridge and the length of the boardwalk and back. The fastest runners will take about 17 minutes and the slowest about 42.Written 5 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Charlie77887 contributionsFantastic charter we bagged out on flat head by 11 o’clock , rather than waste our time on the reef as it hasn’t been much good lately we targeted flat head , skipper was a great fella happy to lend advice , was good to see kids aloud on the boat they had a ball and the skipper was very patient and happy to help them , he even filleted and skinned our catch , we all went home with a big bag of fillets each , overall a great charter will be back againWritten 7 January 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - J GCanberra, Australia19 contributionsWe were keen to try SUP and after checking the forecasts Steve urged us to delay a day - we're so glad we did. We had beautiful weather and crystal clear water with heaps of stingrays, fish and starfish. Steve was great - clear and supportive and the right guidance to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and stayed safe. He knows his waterways really well and from our experience I'd say he is really good at adapting to the skill and confidence level of his clients (we are not young and super fit ;) It was a really positive experience and we are keen to do it again. Thanks so much Steve and good luck with the puppy!Written 30 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - emilykn22 contributionsTwo experiences at Mitchies Jetty.
First was a 6:30am coffee was we walked along the beach. The coffee was average, however this could have been the first coffee of the day. Friendly barista.
Second, a bit later in the day we hired single kayaks for an hour and the people at Mitchies were very helpful and friendly. They gave us a quick but good explanation about where we could go.
We had a beautiful time on the water, very calm and easy to navigate.
In the hour we were able to kayak up to and just past the bridge, back down the left side of the oyster farms and back to Mitchies Jettys.
Lots of stand up paddle-boards happening. Perfect, calm water for children to experience kayaking and SUPWritten 15 January 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
