- JElliot32New South Wales, Australia3,264 contributionsThe Clarence at Maclean is a very impressive sight, sweeping around a broad bend. When I visited the Big River was calm and peaceful, just a few fisher-folk on the wharf and (thankfully) no power boats or jet skis to shatter the peace. Right on the riverbank at the end of Maclean's sleepy main street is a a lovely, well-appointed park. It was spotlessly clean when we visited and offered a large number of covered picnic tables, public toilets, several barbecues and grassy banks. There is a wharf/pontoon here as well. A great spot for a lunch stopover.Written 25 January 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.

- Ronald SSt. Andrews, UK723 contributionsThis title Maclean District History Society Incorporated highlights a little confusion which could impact on visitor numbers. When you reach the location you find it is called the 'Stone Cottage Museum'; yet on Google Maps it is called the 'Bicentennial Museum'. We had quite a long uphill walk in searing heat so the offer of a cup of iced water on arrival was very welcome. The small town of Maclean has its origins way back in the 1800s when Scots ventured north by sea from Sydney and put down roots on the bank of the Clarence River. The Museum with a wonderful range of exhibits traces the way the settlers established themselves as fishermen and farmers. The Stone Cottage gives a glimpse of family life in Maclean in the early 1900s. Signposting from the town could be improved the more so if a name for the Museum could be agreed. Well worth a visit.Written 21 November 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
