They got us outfitted and on the water and then shared local history and stories about the marine life we might see. They are eco-minded and very respectful of the animals.
The weather was beautiful and the seas calm at 06:30. We saw dolphins (including babies) very quickly, and that would have been enough, but then we saw humpback whales. With calves. 10 meters away. It was breathtaking.
Highly recommend paddling with Go Sea Kayak. Maria was a great instructor who had us both up, standing and surfing to the shore in the first 30 mins. Super friendly and enthusiastic, with tailored instructions for each of us.
We couldn’t have had a better introduction to surfing and would love to try more. - LinleyCorrimal, Australia135 contributionsMy partner and I did the half day afternoon surf lesson and it was absolutely fantastic! I have surfed before, and it was my partners first time. Muzz the instructor was awesome, and really pushed us to better ourselves! The difference in skill was no issue because he tried to give us individual feedback and advice depending on our own personal skill level. He even had us out the back in the huge waves, which we managed to catch a few of! We also learned that Mojo surf have surf schools in a number of locations, some of which are in massive tourist destinations overseas which have been massively impacted due to Covid. But they have stayed strong despite only the Byron Bay surf school remaining open, keeping employment in those areas is awesome. Will 100% recommend Mojo surf school to anyone going to Byron Bay and when the international borders open we will definitely check out the overseas surf schools and projects which they are a part of. - Callum P7 contributionsHad the most amazing experience. Horse riding on the beach was a bucket list item for me and my expectations were totally exceeded. I rode on Doug and he was really great and super chill. Our guides Moira and Pauline were also really friendly and gave lots helpful of tips when riding. As someone getting back into riding I felt this was the perfect way to do it and a great company to do it with. - E H1 contributionWas unsure about this biz after reading some of the reviews, but the other places had booked up or weren’t offering snorkeling so we went for it. We found those reviews totally unfounded, possibly because they are now under new ownership. We booked snorkelling the day before and booking was easy as. There is a lot of fluffing around at the start but it’s because you have to cater for the least experienced people who barely know how to put a wetsuit on hah. The equipment was new and excellent and our group was small, around 8 of us. The briefing was good and for a 10am start we were out on the water just after 11. Our crew was Courtney and Josh and they were amazing. Could have as much or as little snorkelling instruction with Courtney as you wished, she was happy to leave you to it or to point things out. You could tell they really knew the area and cared about the marine environment. We saw a green turtle, loggerhead turtle, nurse sharks, Wobbegong shark and all sorts of bright and colourful fish of all sizes. Will definitely book with them again when we go back. I definitely had a good time! Terry really tries to give everyone an amazing day of surfing. Every single day I’ve joined everyone was able to stand up.
Because of sickness I wasn’t able to participate on my last day and Terry was so kid to refund me for it. And black dog surfing was our first experience of how friendly and helpful the people in Byron are.
We rang last minute to see if we could squeeze into a lesson and Tam was so welcoming and bubbly and energetic. And when we showed up for our lesson, it was well-organised and professional. They provide rashies, boards and suncream and take you down to the spot in the bus.
The boys Liam and Kalani are very knowledgable and clearly passionate about surfing. They have an easy way of teaching that means even if you are not very experienced, you should be able to stand on the board and ride a wave very quickly. They are easy to talk to and good at recommending places in the area. And when they take you back to the shop, they provide popcorn to take away the taste of all the sea water you will inevitably swallow during the lesson. - Liz B5 contributionsMy husband gave me a ride in a balloon for our anniversary last week. Our ride started at the Channon Showgrounds and we landed on a farm in Eltham. The views were spectacular. Our pilot was extremely obliging and the support crew were all passionate about the region!!! They made sure we learnt the correct techniques, taught us surf etiquette, surf safety and got us out there helping us catch every wave. They have a great sense of humor and made the whole lesson so much fun.
