The Oregon Coast is ever changing. The roar of the tide can bring in school bus size logs hidden in the wave so do not turn your back or leave little ones unattended. There is a giant ancient Redwood tree that has been traveling the Pacific loop to Japan for hundreds of years. The tree is thousands of years old and if you are lucky enough to see it, you will read the many names carved into the thick bark. I have lived here 20 years and have seen it 2 times. Good luck on your search. Remember, the beach is an Oregon State highway so DUI's and reckless driving can be yours if you are not careful. Also, when you illegally take driftwood, you can be fined and it will smell like burning tires if you try to use it in a campfire, very black smoke. To find a sand dollar that is complete is a great find and remember agates do not come from the Ocean, they come from the rivers and streams and then are perfected by the grinding saltwater and sand. Have a fun time and I always bring a bag so I can clean up badly mannered primates trash. Leave it better than you found it, watch the waves, keep a current tide table with high and low tides with you and check for full moon and other tidal activities. Safety is key as the Ocean is unforgiving and deadly. Respect the power as it is not measurable by human standards. It is more on the level of meteorites, the Grand Canyon and The Giant Squid that does exist.
