- claussieHamburg468 contributionsA few miles south of Bend.
This nonprofit museum has its focus on regional wildlife, natural resources, regional art and culture, including the history and the life of native American tribes of the area. And settlers.
Including a trapper‘s camp, pioneer wagon train, mining claim and more.
Very interesting displays of various insects, snakes, birds.

It doesn't take too long to make this short jaunt and I think it was well worth it. Beauty, tranquility, calm.Written 12 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Steve HKaty, TX46 contributionsThe obsidian hike at the end of Paulina River Rd is worth it. Nice interpretive trail through a very unique landscape. Takes about an hour to hike around the trail.Written 1 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- claussieHamburg468 contributionsOld cinder cone, close to Bend downtown.
You can hike up and around, there are three trails.
Or you just may use the summit road, very convenient.
Up there you have an impressive panoramic view of Bend, the high desert and the snowcapped Cascade mountains.

- Steve HKaty, TX46 contributionsVery nice, scenic, easy hike around one of the closest of the Cascade Lakes from Bend. Fantastic views of South Sister and Mt Bachelor. Great place to canoe, kayak, or paddleboard if you can get out on the water.Written 1 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Jacqui L1 contributionGreat for our group of 10 with ages ranging from 10 to 60. Dress warmly it is quite chilly, gloves helpful too. Must have good shoes (not flip-flops) and headlamp or flashlight (rent at least one of their high-powered lanterns for $5!). Get your parking permit at Recreation.gov first to secure your time. Park Ranger gives safety talk upon arrival and discussed bats that inhabit the caves. We did not see any bats, fortunately/unfortunately. Not recommended for elderly people or those prone to falls due to metal stairs and uneven ground all over.Written 4 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chris R221 contributionsThe river is beautiful.
We floated the river twice. We brought our own tubes but paid for the transportation at park and float.
We floated the river with young children. The river is nice and calm in town. The kids didn’t have any issues while floating.
Highly recommended.Written 21 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. If you're looking for scenic hiking up the chairlift, not so much. The chairlift goes half way, not all the way to the top (which is still snowy). It's not really set up for hiking. There are better hikes in the Cascades Lakes area just beyond.Written 1 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Shirley GSpringfield, OR1,865 contributionsThis National Forest is one of my favorites. Pine trees and the Deschutes River make for a great vacation.
To many hiking trails to count and a river that is home to all kinds of recreational activities. Hiking, biking, rafter, tubing, swimming and sight seeing. This river is so clear you can in some places see the rocks on the bottom.
A visit to this area of Oregon must include the Deschutes National Forest.Written 21 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Noreen H6 contributionsBeautiful clean town - visit all sections of town. Hike, bike and float throughout Bend. Sit around Old Mill district enjoying one of their restaurants and enjoy concert music from across the river. - Robert NSparks, NV316 contributionsThe park is located within easy walking distance of downtown Bend and provides a relaxing escape from the bustle of the crowd.
