Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Kylie C209 contributionsPort Arthur Historic Site provided a great understanding of Convict history. We paid additional money to have a tour which was a great experience. Would not do the cruise again (included in admission price) if I had my time again.Written 21 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bailey’s MotherMelbourne, Australia2,586 contributionsWhat a splendid hike in all aspects! A safe, well maintained track takes hikers through some magnificent scenery along the southern Tasmania coastline. One minute, you’re climbing up an incline then the track opens to beautiful views of ocean and cliffs, especially on the Cape Pillar leg.
As noted by other reviewers, the huts are comfortable and maintained very well by the resident rangers. Thanks to Nicko (Surveyors Hut), Jess (Munro Hut) and Jacinta (Retakunna Hut) for their advice, conversations and knowledge. All three are a wonderful asset to Parks & Wildlife Services with their passion for this part of Tasmania.
I have to give special thanks to the staff at Port Arthur who discovered that I had unknowingly dropped my wallet in the locker room before departing on the boat to Denmans Cove. On arriving at Surveyors Hut, I was contacted and reassured that the wallet would be securely stored until I returned from Fortescue Bay. “We didn’t want you to be worried and not enjoy your hike” was the primary message. And so, I walked without any worry and most certainly enjoyed an amazing 4 days.Written 10 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - RealbluntusWellington, New Zealand54 contributionsWe loved this/
Last full day of our holiday and it started out quite wet (poured rain over night and only stopped half an hour before we walked).
We did the day walk from the car park to the Cape Raoul lookout (plus the secondary lookout just another ten minutes return from the end).
Amazing scenery, we even saw wildlife (wallabies, an echidna and so many birds) and even photogenic plant life.
Even with the rain, the well maintained track held up. We did the return trip in about 5 hours and it was both challenging and rewarding. Note: We are not advanced hikers - two folks in their 50s and our 20 year old son.
We started mid-morning and, if I were to do it again, that or a little earlier I think are optimal.Written 11 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You dock, you meet your guide and you get a fascinating guided tour of the gravestones and the unmarked graves of Port Arthur inhabitants.Written 17 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. You can also walk to Cape Raoull lookout.Written 3 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

It was a lovely walk to the beach and we had a swim and paddle. - Libby WAdelaide, Australia258 contributionsFascinating to learn that this was never intended as convict accommodation. Just one small part of the whole Port Arthur experience.Written 17 March 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Stephen DHobart, Australia80 contributionsWe only had time to venture to Crescent Bay and return but found this to be a great experience with some very impressive and rugged coastal scenery along the way. The track is very well prepared and maintained and the relatively easy walk to the scenic beach and impressive sand dunes at Crescent Bay are well worth the modest effort.Written 21 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
