Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very nice historical area to wander around. Lovely gardens, nice set up. Very good lunch. Helpful staff, unfortunately no tours due to sickness. If you only have time for one, do Brickendon instead, but it is good to see both.

We visited the gardens in November, during the first flush of the season. A fantastic display. You really need to pick the right time of year to visit the gardens to see the roses at their best. The day we visited, despite being November was very cold with strong wind and rain. However the rose display was worth seeing even under these conditions. Note that the grassed areas can be a bit wet underfoot if it has been raining for a few days. The rain over the past weeks had made the grounds fantastically green but had knocked the roses about.

Some areas were better kept than others but given it is a largely volunteer workforce they do a good job. Imagine all that dead heading! Most roses are labelled but some are not, a job that needs to be looked at in the future to enhance the experience. A few roses are a bit straggly and in need of attention even given that the primitive varieties are that way naturally.
The gardens are well worth a stroll around especially if you are also visiting the Woolmers Estate which adjoins the gardens. You can obtain a ticket at the entrance that covers both the Rose Garden and the Historic House. Concessions may apply for pensioners and Seniors Card holders.

Brickendon and its neighbour Woolmer reflect a specific aspect of the transportation regime in Tasmania. For a few years the 'assignment' system operated whereby landowners were provided with the services of a number of convicts to provide the labour to operate their estates.
At Brickendon the estate operated as a crop growing enterprise. Some of the assignees had specific crafts which were relevant to the estates needs whilst unskilled workers were used in general farm duties such as digging ditches. The estate owners did not pay wages but had to provide accommodation and food for their assignees.
Most of the buildings at Brickendon date from the early nineteenth century and are all described in detail in the leaflet which is given to all visitors.
There is also an introductory video which sets the background to the operation of the estate.
The estate house is one kilometre away along a driveway. It is not open to visitors, although its gardens can be viewed. The return walk is a pleasant way to round off the visit.
For those staying in the Launceston area a visit here is highly recommended.

The Estate Gardens are worth a wander through whether you are a green thumb - or can appreciate one. This garden has been described as having the most unique collection of trees of any private garden in Australia. Definitely worth a wander.

Lovely experience we sat in the kitchen area of the gorgeous house. The lady doing the wine tasting was very down to earth. She knew her stuff and added some interesting stories to her presentation. The wines were good especially the Reisling.

Such a shame that so many churches are now only open for Sunday service or other special occasions. My wife and I enjoyed visiting buildings of various religious denominations over the years, admiring the architecture, stained glass windows and other fitments and the history behind each. Nowadays its almost impossible to access the interior unless attending services. Christ Church dates to 1829 with the laying of the Foundation Stone by Lieutenant-Governor, Sir John Franklin. It opened in 1844 but remained incomplete until 1880 and was consecrated in 1882. Various other works were undertaken in the years to 1960 when the tower was installed. The clock, donated by King George IV in 1829 had been housed in a wooded structure and could now be installed permanently. The clock has been electronically controlled since 2010. The adjoining cemetery contains the remains of pioneer settlers, a number of gravestones have been relocated around a rose garden while others remain in original. Expansive area adjacent with manicured lawn and mature trees.

First of its kind in Tasmania, Longford Village Green has a state-of-the-art electronic playground combining the joys of outdoor play with the immersion of gaming. The system enables players to interact through computer games, either collaboratively or competitively, whilst requiring them to physically (and often vigorously!) move around on and with the play units.

Longford is a classified historic town with many fine houses and estates built by convicts in the early 1800s, it is a country town full of colonial charm, lovely convict-built buildings and grand estates that relive the past.

This village green is a wonderful shared space for the community... with information boards and toilets... it makes a great stop to have a break from driving.

This War Memorial has been erected to remember service to the Boer War, WW1, WW2, Korea and Vietnam. It is a step pyramid style made of grey granite. The two bottom sections are made from single blocks of polished granite. The upper blocks being of the obelisk style.

In front of the memorial are two wheeled mortars. This memorial area is located at the edge of the Village Green on the main road leading into the town. The memorial hall is located next to it. There is plenty of room for commemorative services.

The first Church was built in Wellington Street on land donated by Joseph Heazlewood. By 1870 it had been demolished and a new church built in High Street. As with many churches it was funded by the community. It appears that this current church may have been built in 1929 ... it apparently has a memorial stain-glassed window that is dedicated to young men lost in the war.

The church may not be in the most prominent part of town...but it's still a delightful red brick church in very good condition.
