Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our bespoke foraging and cooking experience with King Island Tours was an unforgettable day, perfectly blending the island’s natural beauty, rich history, and exceptional culinary offerings. Ian and Lucinda warmly greeted us at our accommodation, setting the tone for a day that felt more like exploring with old friends than a guided tour.

The morning was a delightful immersion into the essence of King Island. We journeyed through picturesque landscapes, stopping to uncover key highlights that showcased the island’s fascinating history, unique flora, and diverse fauna. Ian’s storytelling brought the past to life, while Lucinda’s knowledge of the local environment helped us connect with the land in a meaningful way. One of the most enchanting moments was foraging for delicate wild herbs — a hands-on, sensory experience that tied us to the island’s natural abundance. Knowing these herbs would later feature in our lunch added a layer of excitement and connection to the day.

From there, we headed to Wild Harvest restaurant for the culinary highlight of the tour. Here, the focus shifted to preparing a sumptuous four-course feast, but first we feasted on the King Island Bakehouse donuts. Crayfish took centre stage, and under expert guidance, we learned the art of peeling, cracking, and harvesting its tender flesh. The interactive session had us preparing crayfish in three creative ways, all while enjoying an array of perfectly paired local and regional wines. It was a joyful and educational experience that left us with newfound skills and a deep appreciation for the island’s incredible produce.

Lunch was nothing short of a masterpiece. It began with natural crayfish served with a freshly made capsicum sauce — a simple yet sublime introduction to the flavours of the region. Next came a velvety volute featuring crayfish, octopus, and scallops, a dish so rich and indulgent it felt like a celebration of the sea. The main course brought together land and ocean in perfect harmony: an elegant surf and turf of tender Angus beef topped with more crayfish in a light béchamel sauce. To finish, a delicate vanilla bean panna cotta paired with a luscious fig sauce rounded out the meal on a sweet and satisfying note.

The day was a true feast for the senses. From the breathtaking sights of King Island to the hands-on culinary experiences and the indulgent lunch, every detail was carefully curated to create a deeply personal and unforgettable journey. Ian and Lucinda’s warmth and expertise made the experience even more special, and their passion for the island was contagious.

The weather played its part, offering blue skies and gentle breezes that made every stop along the way feel like a postcard moment. Above all, the memories we created — foraging wild herbs, sipping wine over the preparation of crayfish, and savouring exquisite dishes in great company — are ones we will treasure for a lifetime.

King Island Tours exceeded every expectation. Their personalised service, attention to detail, and ability to showcase the heart of the island food in such a meaningful way make this an experience we couldn’t recommend more highly. If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable way to cook, eat and drink on King Island, this is it.

Ana has a lovely manner when explaining her history, how she ended up from Portugal to King Island. We were given a clear picture of the beef industry on the island. She and husband Tom run an excellent business and are starting a dynasty. Happy to recommend the visit with her.

We enjoyed a couple of tours with Ian. Both tours were excellent because of his insightful commentary and relaxed pace. He really took care of us and it felt like we were touring the island with a mate.

You’ll love the Currie Lighthouse tour if you’re interested in shipwrecks, Australian history, or a lighthouse enthusiast.

If you like nature, you’ll love the Platypus Experience. The short hike ends at a spot you’d never find by yourself. We saw a couple of platypus and it was magic.
