Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Belle LaurensBrisbane, Australia16 contributionsMight be one of our favourite things we did on our trip. It's all volunteer run, so, completely free but donations are welcomed to help with little penguin conservation. I thought they were going to be hard to see or further away but they don't care about humans so they're so close you could reach out and touch them. The volunteers are seasoned experts on the Burnie little penguin colony, ask them all the questions you fancy. Make sure you rug up though because it got quite cold and windy down on the bay.Written 5 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CDAussieWodonga, Australia630 contributionsA fantastic place to visit. Entirely run by volunteers. Nice sandwich lunch before we walked the gardens which are well structured, full of life and we also saw a platypus on one of the lakes. Free complimentary bus from Burnie as well. A must if you visit the area.Written 2 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- catalinafhHobart, Australia224 contributionsWhat a pleasant surprise to see the falls. Seriously a 50m walk from the carpark, accessible to everybody, even with strollers or wheelchairs. Then the falls themselves are visible from their own lookout. Do yourselves a favour and visit when you have a chance.Written 9 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Suzannah REmerald, Australia1 contributionDefinitely worth the trip to Tassie even just for this distillery. Views are stunning, staff are wonderful and the whiskey is divine.Written 1 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Liisa and Dave BAdelaide, Australia2,504 contributionsGoogle states that the reserve closes at 5:30pm, however there was a sign that said it closes at sunset which gave us more time than we thought. Plenty of car parking spaces. Toilets and picnic spots available. The reserve itself is quiet and peaceful. We didn’t see any platypus, nevertheless, enjoyed a walk.Written 26 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - PeterLangstonTamworth, Australia1,005 contributionsWhat a delightful place. Originally the home of William Henry Oldaker, a place he called Avon, it has Shorewell creek running through it. The park is hilly but the Council have done an outstanding job not only setting it up but also maintaining it. Lots of seats and places to just plonk. Lots of thick grass to lay on. Plenty of up to the minute kids equipment. Off street parking to unload the kids. BBQs, shelters, a performance shell set into the side of the hill ... and oh, the waterfall! Oldaker Falls is at the top of the park and is reached by an easy walking track, with the water from the falls running beside you as you approach.
Not many city park can boast a waterfall.
Also contained with in the park is the 175 year old Burnie Inn: the oldest remaining building after white settlement. Naturally, it was a pub. It was moved to the park in 1973 and preserved.
One of the most outstanding council parks I have visited.Written 16 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. With sound & videos as well as thousands of artifacts its such a surprise & so well done
Most of the items were collected by Peter Mercer who started collecting when he was a young boy and his collection got so big it took over and became a private museum before becoming the Burnie Regional Museum.
The design is based on the Kirkgate Victorian Street in York, in the UK and is a fantastic collection of so many items!!
See the Local Pub - The Emu Bay Inn. The Doctor, Livery Services,Coach Service, Newspaper Offices, Blacksmith, General Store & Post Office, Local Photographer, The Emu Bay Butter Factory, The Dental Surgery - Ouch!! Heaps more!!

Everything is set up for Covid - you sign in, sanitise and you are free to wander through. The gallery is not a big gallery but I found the artwork inside intriguing. Some of it I really enjoyed ... other pieces made me wonder how the artist thinks. THAT is what I love about art... the differences, the nuances, the uncertainty.
There are items for sale in the entry area.Written 13 February 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The War Memorial was dedicated in 1924 in recognition of those from the district who died in service or were killed on the battlefield during WW1. It is an inscribed granite obelisk .Nearby is the 100 Years of ANZAC Memorial, two winged walls commemorating the landings at Gallipoli and dedicated in 2015. The walls also acknowledge past and future conflicts which are not recognised on the Cenotaph. A plaque already affixed is dedicated to Corporal Cameron Baird of Burnie who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2013. He was the 100th Australian to be awarded a Victoria Cross . A ground level inscribed granite slab also r4ecognises his bravery. The 75th Anniversary of Remembrance Day plaque was dedicated in 2015. The National Service Memorial is dedicated to the 287,000men who undertook National Service 1951 - 1972. An obelisk, Others War Memorial, commemorates those who served in WW11, Korean War, Vietnam War, Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation and dedicated in 2014Written 20 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - 2CAtravelersBrattleboro, VT876 contributionsWe were fortunate to see the exhibit "Burnie at Play", a photographic history of the town highlighting its leisure pursuits. It was set up in a large room which included typical photo sizes plus some large mural sized prints. Some related antiques were also featured throughout the exhibit. It's definitely worth a visit if still open.Written 7 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
