Berkhamsted Castle Berkhamsted 6.2 km away
#2 of 5 Sights & Landmarks in Berkhamsted
The castle is in ruins but it's worth looking at especially from the top of the tower as you get a breathtaking view and can see the scale of the original castle.
I've walked all the way around the inner earthwork many times in my childhood, and climbed to the top of the Motte for lovely views across the grounds, which are a lovely place for a picnic in the summer.
St Albans Cathedral St Albans 9.2 km away

The reconstructed shrine of St Alban provides a prayer space for those who want to visit the site as a pilgrimage, and the new statues of the martyrs are a good reminder that it is a living church.
A couple of times a year there is a tower tour which you climb up loads of steps to get to the topmost point of the Abbey, amazing views, worth it but need to be quite fit to climb.

Apparently the property is occasionally a filming site, and I was startled to recognize it from several episodes of Midsomer Murders.
