As a fellow guest it was disappointing to see such a belated and scathing criticism of what I thought we all felt was a great trip.
The guides did a wonderful job of running the trip in quite difficult wind and weather conditions (I believe it was the last trip of the kayaking season).
I recall the problems that David had with his rudder. The guides managed to sort out the issue with a minimum of fuss as I remember.
I felt the standard of the food, consideration for safety, guiding expertise and overall enthusiasm of the staff were exemplary.
I would not hesitate to recommend Coral Sea Kayaking for this trip to anyone interested in this beautiful area.

The small number of participants made it very personal. Where they took us to see the Great Barrier Reef was breathtaking. The Captain and Bosun were very helpful, accommodating and full of interesting facts. Simon was incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure we had the necessary local information to boat carefully but with the flexibility to do essentially as we pleased. We cruised to the outer Family Islands, mooring at one (Bowden) for a little while for a swim and wander. Then a quick stop at the beautiful beach on Bedarra and then finally a much longer stop on Dunk to use their BBQs for our lunch. Whilst the facilities in Dunk were great, the beaches on the other islands were much nicer than the main beach at Dunk (at low tide - would have been nicer at high tide) and if the ride is on your side (rising) when at the outer islands, plan to spend more time there and less at Dunk, maybe packing a picnic lunch. We may have liked Dunk more if we'd also walked to Muggy Muggy Beach which in hindsight we should have done. Saw 5 or 6 crocodiles, several of them juveniles. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge and made the trip most enjoyable. Saw a jabaru which are not such a common sight. The glass of wine (or beer for the others) on the beach with a great platter of cheese, meats and nibbles was a lovely touch. We had the pleasure of going out for a mornings fishing with Alister, the day after we hired a small boat from him.
His knowledge and most importantly his enthusiasm was a pleasure, ok my wife caught more fish, and I will never live that down.

- Christine BFordingbridge, UK1,496 contributionsThis was huge fun. The only problem was that there were 3 adults & 2 small children & this was too many. We had to split our time & come back to the jetty to swap over.
We did have a small problem with navigation as we ended up in a very narrow part of the river with overhanging trees which was a bit scary. We turned back & went the other way & all was then OK (could have done with information on this beforehand though!).
Life jackets were provided & there was a 'lid' to protect from the sun.

Jade and Rob are excellent hosts and it is just a short trip from Mission Beach jetty to Dunk Island. Very calm seas! Highly recommend taking the 1.5hr walk upto the Dunk Island lookout where a WW2 radar station operated. Then back to the bay for a refreshing swim. - Paco399111 contributionsWe couldn't take the tour, we got it cancelled a few days before because of "bad weather". We were in the area these days and the weather was quite good, specially the day of our cancelled tour, with sun shining in the sky and no waves in the sea.
