What travellers are saying
- nikhilatorBrisbane, Australia1 contributionIt was an amazing experience visiting Maleny Botanic Gardens with my family. The place has a lot to offer for everyone. And the staff is very friendly and helpful. It also has buggys to allow families to hire it incase you don't want to walk. It's a must visit.Written 22 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- AtlasmothIpswich, UK51 contributionsHaving decided to visit Mary Cairncross reserve we arrived at lunchtime and had a delicious meal in the restaurant served by very friendly staff. Afterwards we visited the discovery centre, which was very informative. We then went in to the reserve itself and had an enjoyable walk during which we spotted some wallabies and interesting birds. It was a very lovely day out.Written 4 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Mark SWillunga, Australia489 contributionsNice pleasant but quite short walk past a series of cataracts not really much of a waterfall. There is a shortage of parking so get there early or be prepared to park outside the carpark.Written 17 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Phillip8789Terrigal, Australia830 contributionsLocated on the Maleny-Montville Road, this lookout gives a 180 degree view of the Hinterland and also provides glimpses of the coastline far in the distance.
A directional dial located at the lookout provides the opportunity to ascertain geographic points in the distance.
Great views from this vantage point.
Worth the stop.

The boardwalk was quite pleasant, but a little confusing. If you start from the Showgrounds, it runs alongside the creek behind where the camping area is. It runs towards town, but pops out onto the road well before you get to the park, then starts again across the road down near the post office but from here it is more of a broad pathway than a boardwalk.
Apparently you can potentially see platypus anywhere along the creek, but there were three main areas where they seem to be easier to find. One is at the main viewing platform, one is at the little platform on Coral St, and the other is from the road bridge hear the Showgrounds.
I was lucky enough to see platypus at all three locations, but then I got extra-lucky and met the Platypus Whisperer (look him up on Facebook). He runs tours, and takes beautiful photos, and is very knowledgeable. He was very generous with his time and knowledge, so I imagine his tours would be very interesting.Written 8 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I was dying to head outdoors and enjoy the fresh air market atmosphere and great stalls. Especially food stalls.
Witta markets provided fresh fruits And veggies but also fresh baked loaves of bread.
With my bad experience in the past with the local general store. They've selling frozen bread. I don't think they allowed to sale unhealthy products especially frozen expired items.
Thank God with the markets that twe've got monthly, we are be able and willing to keep supporting the local stall holders inside the markets.
Friendly and helpful service brings together the community.

They gave us some excellent suggestions and are an asset to the town! Thanks Bridgette for the great suggestion for Mary Cairncross scenic reserve, we loved it! - WorldTravla7Cairns, Australia6,036 contributionsGetting to the trailhead is the most challenging part of this adventure as you need to drive 9km along a very uneven, rocky dirt road (from the Boolumba camp ground) to get there. 4WD or high clearance vehicles are essential. I did it with my parents in an early 2000s Ford Escape - we took it super slow & carefully and made it with no issue. At the start there are two creek crossings, the 2nd more challenging than the 1st. The road takes you through some beautiful forest (rainforest & dry schlerophyll) along a ridge high above valleys below, and we enjoyed listening to the bellbirds making their distinct calls along the way.
The walk from the carpark to Boolumba Falls is 3km return and took us through wet rainforest with diverse trees & plant life. The falls at the end are oasis-like with a large pool at the base & I enjoyed an impromptu swim in my underwear. The water was icy cold but refreshing & I got used to it after a few minutes. There had been rain when we visited so the falls were flowing nicely & I was able to swim up to the cascades & let the falls spill over me. We saw a leach near the falls so they are definitely around! There is a nice lookout 20m from the falls which looks out over Conondale NP, Other, longer walks can be done in the area including a hike to the Boolumba camping & day use area which forms part of the Conondale Great Walk (we saw some backpacked hikers who were doing the Great Walk). We were also surprised how many people were out here given the remoteness & the tricky trek in!Written 30 April 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
