Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- HelenYamba, Australia18 contributionsA delightful place to walk and exercise and discover trees and plants. The pathways take you along both sides of the river and along the high side where you discover picnic facilities and a great children’s playgroundWritten 9 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Debbie KOrmeau, Australia103 contributionsWent to the Information Centre on Sunday 26th May and the lovely lady (sorry I didn't get your name) that was there was terrific and knew about all the Big Thing's I wanted to see, I always have a list but like to double check with them.
Was also very helpful with other things to see in Emerald.
I love a great Information Centre that knows about their town where I'm not handing over my itinerary to teach them something.
So if you are staying or passing through stop and go in and say Hello.
You have the Big Easel in the park next door & Big Lizard out the front of the building.
Thanks again for being full of information. 😀👌👏Written 26 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It's huge and located almost immediately behind, but to the side, of the Information Centre and can be viewed from the highway. I'm no mathematician but I'd guess the painting would be 4m high and 2m wide, standing on an easel at least 10m off the ground.Written 4 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David & TriciaGreater Sydney, Australia954 contributionsWe could not believe the quality of this country town aquatic centre. It would put most local city swimming centre to shame.Written 10 June 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - OrderintheHouseBrisbane3,540 contributionsDuring October 2022, my wife and I enjoyed a one week bus tour with Outback Aussie Tours incorporating three nights in Longreach and 2 nights in Winton. We began our journey with a one night stay in Emerald, 270 kilometres west of Rockhampton, where we caught the Spirit of the Outback train for Longreach.
Our departure point in Emerald was the beautifully constructed, historic, Emerald Railway Station, built in 1900 and located in Clermont Street in the centre of town and a living, working tribute to the brilliant design skills of the prominent Queensland Railways architect of his day - Henrik Hansen.
Henrik Hansen is responsible for designing some of the most beautiful Railway Stations in Queensland, still standing today. In addition to the Emerald Railway Station, the design of the following still standing, Railway Stations have the Henrik Hansen design stamp written all over them - the Mount Morgan Railway Station (1898), no longer in operation but now part of the Mount Morgan Railway Museum and incorporating the local tourist information centre: Archer Park Railway Station at Rockhampton (1899), also no longer in operation and now a fabulous ‘must see’ railway museum; Longreach Railway Station (1916), like Emerald, still in operation, and the terminus for the Spirit of the Outback; and two Brisbane Railway Stations still very much in operation – South Brisbane(1891) and Shorncliffe (1897). I am proud to say that I have had the pleasure of seeing and visiting all six.
The features of the Emerald Railway Station are quite stunning and shine like a beacon in the town centre, making the Railway Station one of the best buildings to see in Emerald. The Station is made of chamferboard and it has a central portico with a semi-circular roof. The central portico is reached by three steps from the roadside and the cast iron lacework and columns at this portico’s entrance are awesome. From this portico you can view the iron lacework to maximum effect. It forms a lovely border around the town buildings on the opposite side of Clermont Street. The front portico leads to an impressive waiting room which in turn leads to the main platform. Just under the semi cicular roof of the portico and above the lacework is a circle in which the year “1900” has been inserted to indicate when the Station was built.
The needs of the disabled are well catered for with a very purpose built disabled ramp leading from the road to the Station entrance. At the start of this ramp is an interesting monument dedicated to the memory of the men and women who were instrumental in opening the west by laying the first railway tracks and infrastructure. The monument was unveiled to coincide with the 125th anniversary of Emerald on 5 December 2004.
It is also very pleasant sitting on the platform inside the Station whilst waiting for the Spirit of the Outback to arrive from Rockhampton. The platform shade cover is propped up by delightful iron columns and has a curved roof. There was apparently a Railway Refreshment Room at the Station, which closed in 1985 and this room has since been converted to offices. The Station was fully restored in 1986 and added to the Queensland Heritage Register in 1992. The restoration has utilised exciting heritage colours with the iron lacework painted bright white, the iron columns a rich heritage brown/red and the timber work a pleasing buff colour.
My wife and I had a fair wait at the Station for the Spirit of the Outback. On the day in October 2022 when we travelled, it arrived 2 hours late. To while away the time we chatted with the down to earth but efficient station mistress who entertained us with her local railway stories.
It was indeed a privilege to be able to visit this imposing Railway Station first hand. We were so pleased that the legacy of Queensland Railways foremost designer, Henrik Hansen lives on through this Railway Station, for future generations to admire and appreciate, and long may it stay that way.Written 5 February 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Anita TForster, Australia12,741 contributionsWe were towing a van which can be a hassle in plazas.
We found a great place to park whilst we went to Coles and grabbed a few grocery items.
We decided to have lunch and picked up a really nice couple of sandwiches at a cafe just outside Coles.
There was also a cut price shop in which we found some great leather outdoor hats.
The staff were friendly, the place was easy to navigate and we were on our way before we knew it.Written 7 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David OBrisbane, Australia160 contributionsThis is a good space to visit when it is warmer outside, and will have a good selection of local artists installed, particularly when any of their competitions are running. - Chrisinkingwood2Houston, TX5,630 contributionsThis cemetery has both old and newer graves but the old ones are very interesting. There are many of the original founders and settlers of Emerald buried here. Especially of interest is the section where many old forgotten headstones are gathered together, these may have been headstones that were knocked down over time or moved so they put them all together as a small monument to those settlers.Written 27 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Chrisinkingwood2Houston, TX5,630 contributionsI only give this a 3 star Average rating because it's ok, the shops are clean and there is some variety and the anchor is the Woolworths but after all it is just a small shopping center.
It is close to the hospital and the apartments we were staying in which was nice.Written 28 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The facility is well maintained, lawns are mowed and the playground is in good condition. There is a toilet, not sure about a water fountain.Written 27 March 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
