After spending a night in a local hotel that had history on the whaling industry we had to make a visit. It didn’t disappoint. On advice from the volunteer we started with the video which was informative and professionally produced. Love how this museum is keeping the history and lives of the men that worked in the whaling industry alive. All the rooms were well laid out and I liked that they also included history on the town throughout the years. This a museum that’s proud of its history and well worth a visit. We also drove out to the Davidson whaling station to see first hand how the men would have worked in this tough demanding industry.

Lookout is right beside carpark, that is immediately off main road in to Green Cape area of Ben Boyd NP. Access for all abilities. One of the best beach coastal views along the south coast.

This is our first visit to Ben Boyd Tower. We visited the attraction on a recent short break in Eden. It is an easy drive from Eden with a small section of gravel road to the entrance and carpark. The walkways and viewing platforms look like the area has been recently upgraded and they have done a really good job. Also, while in the area we visited the Naval Wharf area and jetty, which was open on the day. This was a very interesting discovery and well worth a visit if it is open on the day you are visiting. The viewing areas at the Ben Boyd Tower Reserve give panoramic views of the coastline. The Tower itself is an interesting structure and you can go inside and look up at what were the various floor areas, as the timbers are still in existence. It is a short walk from the carpark to the Boyd Tower and viewing platforms.

Wish we could have seen inside the homestead, such an isolated spot its beautiful today but it would have been a hard life. A great spot to take a picnic.

We did the 2 hour cruise around Twofold Bay Eden. The ship was sensationally comfortable and the cruise was very informative and interesting. Saw lots of life on the bay and got a great look at the bay from the water.
We would definitely do another cruise when we come back to Eden probably in the whale watching season.

Our family of four (kids aged 13 and 11) had the best snorkel we have ever had. There was so much to see and Scott and Emma looked after us really well. We saw so much great stuff including lots of wobbegone sharks, a very cheeky cuttlefish, huge groupers and heaps of other cool fish. The hot drinks and muffins afterwards hit the spot. Would highly recommend!

I travelled with my son all the way from Melbourne to Eden before Xmas just to experience reef fishing with Freedom Charters, who were recommended by a friend of mine. My son lives in the US, and he is really passionate about fishing. I booked ourselves for 2 group tours, one for the 24th, and the other one for the 26th of December. We had an amazing experience on the 1st day catching lots of pikes, snappers and some scorpion fish. Mark and Lindsay went out of their way to make the trip memorable for the people in the group, taking us to different parts of the reef, explaining the tricks of the art, taking the fish off the hook (to avoid injury for inexperienced fishermen) and even cleaning the fish at the end.
Our chances for a 2nd trip, however, became very slim, as heavy rain started pouring in the afternoon on the 25th, and continued into the night. Mark called me up and explained that the conditions were so bad that the trip had to be cancelled. He offered to take us again, 2 days later, on the 1st available opportunity, but this was not an option for us, as we had to go back to Melbourne on the 27th. Although sadly, we accepted reality that there would not be another fishing experience for us in Eden.
Mark, this terrific man, however, knowing that we travelled from such a long distance just to participate in this fishing tour could not accept that we might have to go back with disappointment. He called me up at 6 am on the following day, and told me that despite the weather was still quite windy and a bit rainy, he was willing to take just the two of us for fishing. All the other people in the group already cancelled their trip and went back to where they came from. After thinking for a few seconds we happily accepted the offer. The weather initially was really windy and a light rain was drizzling, but it improved a lot during the morning. Despite some difficulty recognising when the fish was biting due to the waves, we caught a large number of snappers, perches and pikes, and a parrot fish. We will always be grateful to Mark for making that day an experience of a lifetime, and I highly recommend contacting them if you are really keen on catching fish.
