Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So many museums focus solely on people, places and events from deep past, so it's refreshing to visit one, especially one in a small rural area, that appreciates the value and interest appeal of its more recent history and isn't afraid to tell stories that even their younger visitors can relate to and connect with.

I hadn't been to the killer whale museum since I was a child, and what an amazing change - I spent a good 3 hours wandering from gallery to gallery. An awesome, spacious building, although there was a bit of a traffic jam around the killer whale skeleton - one of the guides said that there are plans to move Old Tom into a new location in the museum to try to avoid this though. The killer whale / human story is a special one that visitors won't get to experience on such a personal level anywhere else in the world, and how amazing is it!

Even though the name doesn't highlight it, it was a pleasant surprise to find that the museum also tells many, many other stories than just whaling and whales - and also those from the not-so-distant past. When we visited there were displays about the district during 1980s (covering the serious and sad - the changes the community and local industries faced during the decade - to the fun, including some fab original outfits, vinyl records, and even toys from the decade); the local Fishermen's Club (a place I'd visited in the past without knowing its fascinating social history - sadly it was demolished a few years ago to make way for what resembles a war zone because the proposed development still hasn't happened and the developers haven't bothered to clean the site up); a great Eden through time display that really puts the history of the town and community into perspective; and an art exhibition (can't remember the artist's name though). The guides told us that the museum has a fairly constant turnover of displays, so there's almost always something different to see.

Keep up the great work - we'll be back soon.

We were picked up at the cruise ship and given a lovely bus ride through the town that dropped us near Art on Imlay. We browsed the various local crafts and were impressed with the talent! We couldn't buy or carry all that we would have liked, but I did get several copies of beautiful eco-dyed notebooks by Pam Sykes. Check them out! I found them so fascinating. Be sure to take enough cash. They don't take credit cards.
