Jim welcomes you into their home and Dawn is the winemaker and historian. The grounds are lovely as is the house. The southern hospitality made this a truly memorable experience. Our hosts offered cheese, crackers and chocolate. We left with a case of wine, some cheese and a truly unique memory! When we knew we would be in SC for a concert I decided we had to see if we could make visiting the Mitford Museum part of our travels. I am so glad we did! Nellie was our amazing guide through the museum. She is so kind, knowledgeable, and fun! Though only two rooms and a gift shop, I could have spent hours in the museum reading every word and looking at every last detail. I took lots of pictures (so I could read every word later) and my teenager wouldn't have to wait too long:). I was deeply moved learning about Jan Karon's life and seeing how God used her to create this book series that has impacted so many lives in powerful ways. A joy and a blessing. I hope to visit again when I'm in this part of the country (I live in CA) as Nellie said things are rotated in and out so there is more to see! I am thankful for Jan's generosity in giving her readers this beautiful museum with so many of her treasures for us to enjoy. Needles to say I will be taking my ring off before swimming from now on. The gold mine graciously fixed my ring with a new diamond that was BIGGER thnt the Original!!!
