- AlbanyRickAlbany, Australia2,030 contributionsI walked the Bigurda Trail, which is a 8km hike, starting at the Natural Bridge and going to the Eagle Gorge. I walk fairly fast, and it only took me a bit over 90 minutes, but most people should allow 2-3 hours. I had a vehicle pick me up at the end.
Most of the trail is just rough gravel, and you'll need sun protection and water. Most of it is right on the edge of the cliff-top, and views are spectacular. It just off the road to the left as you drive into Kalbarri from the Geraldton side and as luck would have it, it was the first thing we did when we arrived in the area, picking it almost at random from the many opportunities to turn off the road. Well, what an introduction to Kalbarri!
The red cliffs are so vibrant when set against the azure blue of the ocean and on our visit, the perfect blue of the sky.
The walkway is easy and loop along the clifftops. You get great views out to see and along the coast to Kalbarri town itself. There is plenty of parking and also quite a few info boards telling you about the flora, fauna and history of shipwrecks.

It’s very photogenic and makes for a great insta post but it’s a challenge to get too down steep sand dunes with no real access.
The shore line is crusty and dirty so no white shoes!

This was with Easter so on the internet I could not book anything. We called the visitor centre and they were able to assist us. Very friendly staff. Clean toilets behind the visitor centre. Kalbarri is full of these gems, lookout points and trials along the cliffs. I wouldn't say it is off the beaten track, not at all, its a short drive down a sideroad in Kalbarri Natinal Park but is well signed and the road is excellent. No, its just that most people tend to go to Nature's Window and Z Bend -and rightly so -but not as many come here.
But they a re missing out! Amazing views of the river below and on our visit there were plenty of Kangaroos hopping about down there.

On our visit with the bright sun above the contrast between the red cliffs and the azure blue of the sea was just breathtaking. There was enough of a breeze too to make the waves crash against the base. - Dan LBunbury, Australia7,271 contributionsNice white sand beach stretching both sides of the jetty and access ramp. A few 4WD on the beach, possibly belonging to the boats at anchor near the shore. The exposed reef is better viewed from the lookout, fairly spectacular on the day with waves breaking the exposed sections. Again...the paths & lookout & surrounding area is so well kept it's a credit to WA.
