We had an incredible day with them and highly recommend 3 Islands. The crew (Amy, Molly, Jerry and skipper Sam) were very friendly and professional and we couldn't have asked for more.
We swam with humpback whales, Manta rays, a turtle and a friendly olive sea snake. The crew made sure we all felt comfortable and got to see as many sea creatures as possible.
Morning tea, a decent lunch and afternoon snacks and drinks included, plus you also get all the photos taken on the day by ace photographer Amy.
The best bit is that with this tour company they limit the number of people on the boat, so there are only two groups rotating to swim with the whales. On other boats there are three groups, so your time in the water is more limited.
Thank you 3 Islands, we will book with you again. Highly recommended!

The main event for our stay at Exmouth was the Ningaloo Shark Swim and Eco Tour on a Catamaran with Ningaloo Discovery.

Ningaloo Discovery had free pick up but we chose to meet them at the Tantabiddi boat ramp. The tour had a max capacity of 20 due to the WA whale swimming rules so the boat wasn’t too crowded.

On this tour we saw so many things we hadn’t see before - false killer whales (big black dolphin-like animals), flying fish - plus we finally swam with Humpback whales and mantas! 🥳🥳 The most amazing thing we saw was a sail fish. A very rare sight. The onboard staff had never seen one before.

Swimming with the whales was a surreal moment but one that happened quite quickly. They have a spotted plane tracking the whales and when instructed we had to jump in the water and swim very quickly and get in position. The whales then changed course and we had to swim back the way we came. After a few goes of this we stuck our heads in the water and WOW! What beauties! There were 3 whales: baby, mumma and, at the bottom, what they call an escort. Of course, in all the rush, the GoPro decided to not work so we have no footage 🤦🏼‍♀️😭 but the onboard photographer took some amazing shots. Note: you need to be a confident and competent swimmer to swim with the whales.

After a couple of hours in the open ocean we headed back to the reef and had a swim in the crystal clear blue water. Such a breathtakingly beautiful spot where we saw lots of fish and turtles.

It was a truly amazing day out and we highly recommend this tour. And if you needed another reason to go on this tour - after a couple of days they email you all the photos from the day, for free! Many of the photos in this post were taken by the talented Ningaloo Discovery photographer ✨

The most amazing experience ever. The crew were entertaining, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend taking the plunge and doing the whale shark swim with this crew. We had the most incredible time and memories that will last a life time!

Made the long drive from Perth totally worthwhile. Wonderful morning watching the creatures of Ningaloo Reef both from the boat, excellent boat skippering Caitlin, and in the water with mask and snorkel, all provided. An abundance of fish on the reef just like swimming in an aquarium, only 10 times better. Craig provided an insight into the area on our short trip from town to the boat in a air conditioned bus and is clearly passionate about the environment and his boat. Caitlin, a marine biologist makes science interesting and fun bringing an added dimension to a wonderful trip. Thanks guys for a once in a lifetime experience.

A very comprehensive introduction to the reef. Our trip to the snorkelling site was enhanced by the knowledgeable commentary by Lucy, pointing out various species of fish, coral and other marine life. Once anchored she advised us of the best routes to swim to view a good variety of corals. We spent nearly an hour exploring a broad radius of the anchor point, all the while being watched over by Lucy and the skipper. The return to shore included answering questions regarding things seen by the passengers.

Now that was amazing. We had booked the Summer Sunset Turtle Watching. Our guide was great, gave us a lot of info about the area and its history. Arriving at the beach where we're going to observe turtles coming ashore to nest, we got a short briefing about how to behave around the animals. Already turtles were coming ashore, and it was awesome observing them. Later on we went down to the beach to get a closer look, and there were lots of them around us, some coming very close, but everything under the rules of turtle engagement. Best part: close observation of a turtle digging her nest. Unfortunately we didn't get to observe egg laying as the lady took her sweet time and we were running late. Still, it was a spectacular evening, not to be missed. If you're in the area, ckeck these guys out. Outstanding job.

I went at the end of August with Live Ningaloo to swim with Humpback whales. I had an amazing experience, i don’t regret the increased price tag due to the low number of swimmers and the amazing treatment from Kate and all the crew in the boat. We swam with a whale shark followed by 5 humpback whales within 30 mins. We snorkelled in the outer reef and saw a grey nurse shark and a hige sting ray and we had a nice snorkel in the lagoon where they even tried to help me find a leopard shark or a wedgefish. We didn’t find them but we saw amazing marine wildlife and the team and everything was the best possible! I hope to go back again!
