The main event for our stay at Exmouth was the Ningaloo Shark Swim and Eco Tour on a Catamaran with Ningaloo Discovery.

Ningaloo Discovery had free pick up but we chose to meet them at the Tantabiddi boat ramp. The tour had a max capacity of 20 due to the WA whale swimming rules so the boat wasn’t too crowded.

On this tour we saw so many things we hadn’t see before - false killer whales (big black dolphin-like animals), flying fish - plus we finally swam with Humpback whales and mantas! 🥳🥳 The most amazing thing we saw was a sail fish. A very rare sight. The onboard staff had never seen one before.

Swimming with the whales was a surreal moment but one that happened quite quickly. They have a spotted plane tracking the whales and when instructed we had to jump in the water and swim very quickly and get in position. The whales then changed course and we had to swim back the way we came. After a few goes of this we stuck our heads in the water and WOW! What beauties! There were 3 whales: baby, mumma and, at the bottom, what they call an escort. Of course, in all the rush, the GoPro decided to not work so we have no footage 🤦🏼‍♀️😭 but the onboard photographer took some amazing shots. Note: you need to be a confident and competent swimmer to swim with the whales.

After a couple of hours in the open ocean we headed back to the reef and had a swim in the crystal clear blue water. Such a breathtakingly beautiful spot where we saw lots of fish and turtles.

It was a truly amazing day out and we highly recommend this tour. And if you needed another reason to go on this tour - after a couple of days they email you all the photos from the day, for free! Many of the photos in this post were taken by the talented Ningaloo Discovery photographer ✨

I went at the end of August with Live Ningaloo to swim with Humpback whales. I had an amazing experience, i don’t regret the increased price tag due to the low number of swimmers and the amazing treatment from Kate and all the crew in the boat. We swam with a whale shark followed by 5 humpback whales within 30 mins. We snorkelled in the outer reef and saw a grey nurse shark and a hige sting ray and we had a nice snorkel in the lagoon where they even tried to help me find a leopard shark or a wedgefish. We didn’t find them but we saw amazing marine wildlife and the team and everything was the best possible! I hope to go back again!

This was a really well organised and informed day. It began an ended snorkelling on the inner reef amongst a myriad of fish of extraordinary variety and colour and reefs of wonderful health scattered through the extraordinary turquoise waters. A trip to the outer reef , a wonderful show of leaping humpback whales, and swims with the whale sharks. All capped with attentive staff , timely morning snack and a great lunch. I strongly recommend this great experience

Made the long drive from Perth totally worthwhile. Wonderful morning watching the creatures of Ningaloo Reef both from the boat, excellent boat skippering Caitlin, and in the water with mask and snorkel, all provided. An abundance of fish on the reef just like swimming in an aquarium, only 10 times better. Craig provided an insight into the area on our short trip from town to the boat in a air conditioned bus and is clearly passionate about the environment and his boat. Caitlin, a marine biologist makes science interesting and fun bringing an added dimension to a wonderful trip. Thanks guys for a once in a lifetime experience.

The most amazing experience ever. The crew were entertaining, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend taking the plunge and doing the whale shark swim with this crew. We had the most incredible time and memories that will last a life time!

Did the full snorkel tour which was exactly as described with 3 full snorkels and a good lunch. The snorkelling was great but the bonus was that you followed a guide in the water who pointed out features and added a layer of safety. Other tours it was a case of jump in the water and climb out when finished. We Had a great day. Enjoyed every part of it. Have done tours in coral bay and cairns and this was better. Can’t fault this tour.

I did a DSD at the Navy Pier and Charlie was amazing and keep me calm when i panicked a few times the first dive, the second one was much easier and enjoyed it more without much trouble. The site is amazing and anybody who loves scuba diving and wildlife will enjoy it. Thank you very much Charlie for your help and patience today and i hope all the very best for you and the crew of Dive Ningaloo in the future.

Had an amazing experience with Exmouth Dive on the Scuba Diving Tour of Ningaloo Reef. As a first time scuba diver I was quite apprehensive but was so grateful for our instructor Ester who was so patient and an excellent guide who helped settle those nerves. She provided support with our gear, a thorough skills session and made me feel safe and reassured throughout the dives. The dives themselves were amazing with so many sea creatures including turtles and wobbegong sharks along the colourful coral reefs. Unfortunately we missed the whale shark season but it was incredible nonetheless. An overall wonderful experience and thought it was well run, especially with quite a full boat.
