Spanning a deep gorge, this bridge presents visitors with panoramic views and a touch of vertigo. Local crafts and jewellery sold nearby enhance the scenic stop.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Retired0316Marana, AZ142 contributionsSpectacular views. There is a bit of walking involved but really stunning. I would rate it five stars but nothing else around the site but a rest area with local vendors.Written 18 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Climber594343 contributionsThe experience was unbelievable. If you appreciate history in its authentic form this is the place to be. History that is still alive and thriving. The opportunity to witness truth from the Pueblo Indians who still live there, and adobe buildings that have been continuously inhabited for over 1000 years. Seeing the inside (floorplans) of these adobe buildings will blow your mindWritten 3 December 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - anotheruxguyHavertown, PA251 contributionsThis is a nice, scenic drive from Santa Fe to Taos. I've seen some reviews complain that it wasn't that scenic. Well, yeah if you expect it to be the most scenic drive in America, you'll probably be disappointed. But it is still a nice, scenic, leisurely drive.
The highlights are the scenery and several historic and unique churches to stop at and view along the way: Santuario de Chimayó, San Jose de Gracia de las Trampas, and San Francisco de Asis Catholic Mission Church.
Make sure you get good directions on the route to follow, because Google Maps and other map apps will direct you to the fastest route, not the official scenic road.
It took us about 3 hours.Written 11 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. And each time we are awed and find something new to marvel at. It is a terrific drive with outstanding views. The main thing is to take the time to enjoy being there. I was surprised at all the cars that either passed me or came on my tail impatiently waiting for me to speed up (but enough of that). The views are terrific. The road is good. It can be rather busy.Written 5 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- anotheruxguyHavertown, PA251 contributionsWe stopped at this church near the end of our drive along the High Road to Taos. It's a beautiful and historic church notably photographed by Ansel Adams and painted by Georgia O'Keefe. When you see it you think, "Oh yeah, that looks familiar."
You can take photos of the exterior, go inside to see the interior, and there is a nice gift shop next door.
It's definitely worth a short stop (30 minutes) if you're in Taos or on the High Road to Taos.Written 11 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - LodiWineBobOceanside, CA503 contributionsWe were driving by after visiting the Gorge and decided to drop in. One of the best museums we saw during our recent trip to Santa Fe and Taos, and saw more than a dozen of them. Ms. Rivers was quite a character and collector. Impressive collection laid out in 14 galleries. Fully climate controlled so it was a nice respite from the heat. Plenty of parking, nice staff. $15-$20 entry fee depending on age/status. Very nice gift shop too,.Written 15 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Njune14Washington DC, DC9 contributionsOnce we arrived in Taos, we decided to visit Williams Lake the next day. After checking the reviews, we saw that it had snowed two days before. Being in our sixties, and just moderately fit, with a bit of hesitation, we decided to challenge ourselves and go regardless of conflicting reviews. Thankfully we had our poles and our hiking boots.
1. The slope is not too bad and is very gentle
2. The view is not much while you are going through the forest which is 3/4 of the way
3. After parking at the base, there was no clear mark to the trail
4. The trail is not marked clearly, especially at the beginning. once you get a bit further if you are on the right track (we were not but luckily ran into people who directed us into the right path) it would get easier.
5. once you get to the boulders and the lake, the scenery becomes more interesting.
In conclusion, go for the beautiful ride (fall colors made it gorgeous), the clean air, the exersise and the lovely view at the top.Written 9 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Lots of souvenir items, handmade items and the ice cream and fudge shop is good for an afternoon treat.Written 1 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Michael WCharleston, SC242 contributionsIf you are visiting Taos, you should take the time to go to the Kit Carson Home. My wife and I were in Taos and decided to visit. We arrived late in the afternoon and realized that the place was closing in a few minutes. Dave was very welcoming and let us come in and told us that we could stay past closing. He was very friendly and made our visit special. The Kit Carson Home tells about the life of Kit Carson and history of the West.
Kit Carson is buried in the park near the home. Worth the visit.Written 22 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Frank Lloyd Wright would be jealous!. The house is a total work of art with touches of adobe, craftsman, art deco, and Russian niches.
Excellent gift shop, too.Written 26 November 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Charlene LFort Worth, TX137 contributionsThe Rio Grande del Norte National Monument is a variety of many different experiences. The bridge on Highway 64 just north of Taos is one part. I drove over it unaware and could not believe my eyes! So worth a stop. It's simply stunning.
Secondly, just out of Questa, NM and about an hour from the adorable Red River ski and summer resort town, there is a visitor center with campgrounds and many, many trails, some very challenging and some easier. The two gorges of the Red River and the Rio Grande converge at the La Junta point. You can see it from the overlook but if you're a hiker, you can hike down to the confluence. If you hike down to the rivers, be aware you are going straight down and then up a gorge. The elevations are around 740-840 feet. Use poles, have appropriate footwear, a hat and lots of water.
Our latest hike was the Little Arsenic to the River Trail to the La Junta point where you can see the rivers and the gorges become one. Beautiful rushing water, birds singing, ponderosa pines, pinon trees, chamisa and flowers are still blooming even in September. There are shelters and primitive toilets where you can catch your breath. Many fish here as well in the cold, clear water.
Luckily, they held a Star Party while we were there, and I hope they get the Dark Skies designation they are going for. It was extremely informative and seeing the actual Milky Way and so many stars was a wonderful experience. Local amateur astrologists brought their telescopes so we could see stars and even the planet Saturn.
The campsites do not have hook-ups, however, there is water and bathrooms available.Written 29 September 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. These “earthships” are something and fully self contained! The community is way bigger and vast than I had imagined and I discovered after flipping through a real estate magazine from Taos you can buy one and live in it! Some of the structures are really ornate and impressive! You can’t drive through the community as it’s all private residences but you can drive up the road and get a good view of some of the dwellings farther back.Written 14 April 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
