- Carrie A1 contributionLoved this place! We were otw home to Louisville after a trip to the Gulf. I found this place on Google, and it did not disappoint. I'll definitely make plans to visit again. Possibly in the summer for outside picking too. The staff was top notch friendly, the place was spic and span and they even have coffee 🙂Written 12 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Melissa HOak Ridge, TN149 contributionsIf you’re a history buff then you probably like old houses. If you like old houses, then you probably love history. Those two together create ghost stories, so if that’s the case, the Octagon house deserves a visit due to that.
Be warned - the house supposedly has a charitable foundation that is trying but it’s not in good shape. I read prior reviews and it seems that things have not improved in the past few years. The house is old, it needs a lot of love and attention and if that doesn’t happen then I’m guessing the end is near for this one. The furniture in the house is antique, but hodge podge - not original. So most things you are allowed to touch, sit on, etc.
They ask for a donation for you to visit but it doesn’t seem to be required. I gave a bit more $ having seen the inside and the volunteer that day gave me a 1:1 guided tour.,.probably because the 2 other people that were visiting left shortly after my arrival. I was there a couple of hours and no one else stopped by.
I spent those few hours with volunteer Mike - he knows a LOT about the war so be ready for those stories :) I’m a history fan but maybe not at the level that Mike is so sometimes I got a little sidetracked. The house has a lot of stories behind it that are both believable and maybe a bit embellished but still really interesting and captivating.
There are a lot of paranormal activity groups that visit that seem to think the house is very haunted. I don’t doubt that, an awful lot happened there and I think that contributes to that type of activity. I did have a little bit of an experience while visiting that I won’t share here but thankfully nothing seemed to transport its way home with me so I’m thankful for that.
I would recommend a visit if you’re in the area for several reasons - one, if you’re willing to donate, they need the money. Two, it’s a neat quirky stop that’s a fun visit that could potentially freak you out it and give you some great dinner time stories for the future. And three, if you’re into civil war history, it’s a good stop for some really good stories and background specific to that area.Written 12 February 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Staff was friendly and very informative about the history of the area. Lots of interesting exhibits about days gone by. Then across the street you get to tour the old jail. Half of it is brick and then a section added on in limestone. Very interesting to see the jail and also where the jail or lived. If you like small towns, put this on your list.Written 15 May 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- ScaulgurPort Huron, MI37 contributionsCute medium size downtown boutique with some antiques, gifts, clothing and artsy items. Very nice people. - Clay_VisAtlanta, GA352 contributionsWe made a special trip to this place looking for a cast iron skillet. The owners were extremely kind and personable! There are lots and lots of individual booths with tons of items in each booth. The building looks small on the outside, but it is huge on the inside. We probably spent an hour here searching just for what we wanted, but could have spent a lot more time of we were just browsing. We lucked up on 2 old cast iron skillets (just what we wanted) for $32Written 3 February 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Catherine FBowling Green, KY69 contributionsOur visit to the Sandford Duncan Inn was terrific! It is one of the oldest structures in Simpson County. It was a stagecoach stop built in 1819. Serving travelers as early as 1822 including duelists like Sam Houston who stayed 10 days and nights preparing for his famous duel at nearby Linkumpinch Dueling Grounds. Our guide Karen was quite knowledgable and very entertaining.Written 14 June 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Tony MUnited States2 contributionsStaff was very nice. Very clean and food was really good.
The reason for my 3 stars are how tight the machines are. Didn’t see anyone winning. Heard lots of complaints while I was there. I gamble all over the country and never seen a casino this tight.
Other than that, was a nice place and taken care of.Written 4 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The church has a rich history dating back to the 1860’s. The sanctuary is stunning; however, the stained-glass windows are breathtaking. There are 10 altogether with 6 of them 8 to10 feet tall.
Another fact of history is that Johnny Cash and June Carter married at this church on March 1, 50 years ago this March (2018).
The community itself is quite nice with shops around the square.
Bring your camera for some wonderful photos.

We had never been to Franklin, so we decided to go. Ruby Branch Farms is a locally owned farm on Lake Spring Road in Franklin. They have a Sunflower Maze and a Corn Maze. I have to admit, that the Sunflowers were gorgeous. My wife really loved them. The Maze was not difficult to navigate, and there are several places in the Maze where you can stop and take a photo. One has the typical cut out wood structure where you stick your head into a hole, and it looks like you are one of the Sunflowers. There was also a Very Large Bench to sit on, as well as another bench of normal size, and a well placed classic looking Truck. It took us about 30 to 45 minutes to walk through most of the Maze, but being older, we did not do every bit. Plus, it had rained very hard in the morning and there were still some places in the Maze where there was mud. There is a very beautiful lake at the end of the Property. The people at Ruby Farms were very nice. The Maze is easy to walk through. They told us that in September they will have a Corn Maze. They also sell beef. It was open from 12-5 in the afternoon at this time, but you can check their website for more information. The cost to walk through the Maze was $6 for each of us. We really did enjoy it.Written 9 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Barswee53Central Arizona, AZ5 contributionsIf you liked horses before visiting Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm, you will LOVE them after visiting this place. We were so impressed by the facilities and loving care these beautiful horses received. We were so fortunate to have met Mr. Blowen and hear some of his amazing stories. Our tour guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable as well, and filled us in on the history of the farm, even before we arrived. All in all, it was a wonderful experience! I would highly recommend Blue Grass Tours!Written 22 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- DrMarc9491Franklin, KY4,153 contributionsI had a chance to visit the Franklin Presbyterian Church that is located on North College Street in Franklin, Ky. It is quite beautiful inside and the stained glass windows are remarkable.
A wonderful place for reflection, prayer and some photo shoots.
